"Imaginary" Nerf Bars?

Perhaps the nerf bars I'm wanting do not exists.  I'm seeking a set of nerf bars that fit tight to the side of the truck (minimal gap).  All the bars I've seen stick out quite a ways creating significant gap between the side of the truck and the nerf bar.  Also, come hang very low ... which also creates a very noticable gap.  Are there any out there that fit like I'm wanting?  At this point I don't care if they are CPS, chrome or black ... black being my preference.

There's always the running boards like what they put on Tahoes and Suburbans.  I just saw them in the GM Accessories catalog for the extended cab trucks.  Added benefit you don't slip off the nerf bar by the bottom of the cab. :)

Moonlight, check out Manik nerf bars. I got a pair on my truck. They dont have much of a gap between the cab and the bar and the dont hang down to low either.

Heres a pic. Its not the best.

The NFAB bars look unique ... very nice look.  However I can see my 4 yr/old son getting his foot caught in the step getting in or out ... I really like the look though.  The Mannik bars look good too ... What I'm not sure of is the difference in how bars attach on a 2500 compared to a 1500 ... I'm thinking the brackets are different and attach to different locations (maybe I'm wrong) which may alter the final location?  I may end up going with a set of the SteelHorse or Westin black lighted running boards ... saw some picts of the same truck as mine on fullsizechevy.com and thought they blended in quite nicely with the pewter color.  I guess I'm going to hold off for a bit before pulling the trigger.  Perhaps I'll see some trucks around town that may help a decision.

I found the Manik installation guide for the bars that fit my truck on Manik's web site ... with diagrams.  The brackets have oblong holes for adjustment.  It looks like I'll be able to adjust them as desired ... or modify the existing bracket holes to mount them closer to the cab if needed.  They look like a decent set of bars and are full length which will be nice for access to the front of the bed as well.  We'll see ... should be here this week. :)

I had a set of westin bars on my 99 silverado 1500 z-71. I redrilled my mouting hole up 1-1/4" and then trimmed the bracket back off the diff. it originally was. looked great... I know you probally don't want to go through all of that, but it'll make a clean install................
