Air Compressor Kit

any ideas?

I have an 08 GMC Sierra 2500 HD with a Duramax. I have a camper, so I have air helper springs in the rear. I just installed the Firestone dual air command air compressor so I can adjust the pressure from the cab. The install went good and I was able to install the compressor under the hood and the tank on the frame under the rear door area.

The problem is I cant figure out where to draw the power from. The compressure requires a 12 volt, 20A ignition activated power source. Does anyone know the best place to draw power from? I looked at the fuse boxes both under the hood and in the cab but can not identify a good place to tap into. I can identify several 20A fuses but dont know how to match them up with the proper wires in the circuit. Its not like the old days when you just looked at the fuse holder to determine the wire. Everything is enclosed and it looks like the mini fuses are attached to a circuit board. I am very leary to open any of the components.

Anyone deal with this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I powered my compressor directly from the output wire of the alternator. Of course this is not "ignition-powered" with the ign. switch but the relay that controls it is. Oh, don't forget, I used an inline fuse for the power wire to the compressor motor. I think I tapped in to a fused circuit in the under-hood fuse panel for the relay, but I'd need to go look to see which one. But then again mine is an '03 1500HD......

Be sure to keep us updated.

Under the dash right to the left of the brake pedal is another electrical box. It is all fused power on the ingition side. Right next to where you would hook your trailer brake up at. Worked perfect for me 20 amps

The box to the left of the steering column under the dash is installed at the factory for this purpose exactly.

Try this for wiring it.
