Something That "really" Pissed Me Off While I Was Driving

Something that really ticked me off

Anyway, I was driving to a friends house to drop off some parts and a car smoked a deer at 65mph, I mean smoked it, deer flew up and over the car and flipped 2-3 times before it landed. The car paused maybe to 55mph and kept going, not sure how the air bags didn't go off or the windshield caved in. I hit the binders to look at the deer and this thing is a huge doe, I'm talking 8-10 point buck size (been a long time since I seen one that big). I pull over and put the flashers on, thinking the car might come back, the deer was laying there, barley moving, I call a buddy and ask him if he wanted it and was going to clean it. As I was talking to the 911 person to get a sheriff to come out with a tag, it woke up, just like in the Tommy Boy movie, just not as bad. It was in bad shape and was suffering something bad, I told the 911 lady I was going to shoot it being I carry. She put the fear of God in me that bad thing will happen if I do so, ticket, fine, jail. I rudley explained I have a permit to carry and it was suffering, she said the same thing & a sheriff was on his way. 2 other people stopped willing to shoot it, I told them what I was told, they left pissed too. I am guessing 10-15 min's go by and no cop, I thought the heck with it, I found a .22 pistol under my back seat, rather than using my 9mm, as I was un ziping it from it's case and walking back to the deer the sheriff shows. He walks up to the deer and stands on the sholder of the road and shoots it, keep in mind he's on the sholder and theres 2 lanes of traffic on the other side & that's the way he was aiming. (yes I kept it and it will not go to waste)

I am a hunter, gun owner & business owner that is now very unhappy with himself. What would you have done??:crackup: .

I don't carry, but I would have shot it, the thing was suffering.

i understand your frustration as well. no need for the deer to suffer that long. i don't carry, or even own a gun, but if i did i would have shot it. i find it hard to believe a judge would actually fine you if you had done so, at least under these circumstances. whoever hit the deer and kept going was a real ****.

My uncle was in a situation like that years ago. He hit the deer and got out, but the deer was just twitching. The game warden just came up over the hill as my uncle shot it. He told my uncle that it looks fishy when you have a deer that you claim got hit, and you claim to put it out of it's misery. The guy was cool about it, and didn't seem to agree with the law anyway.

Besides, poaching a deer in Iowa is like poaching mosquitoes. It should really be open season.

Thank you for your understanding and help. I have been kicking myself in the A** for not doing what I felt was the right thing and going with my gutt. I went with the voice in my head said you will loose your right to carry with a ticket or fine. I will read on to all of your replies.

Thank You!

When she told me that I would have shot the deer and left... thats some bull I'd say.. I carry too and that didnt make any sense... That cop didnt use his head either..

I've been in this situation (minus the dispatcher) and killed the deer as quickly as possible. When the officer arrived I told him what had happened. He said thanks and that was that. He didn't ask for my license, my permit, anything.

Had that lady told me that, I'd have shot it anyway. She's likely just on a power trip because she gets to tell people what to do and threaten them with the officers she's sending their way. Any police officer who'd ticket you for that shouldn't be a cop. I bet none of the LEO's on this site would give two shits and would probably thank you for it.

Stupid Beyotch.

    • Ok that confirms the extra quart theme they are still going with which must mean they have noted some initial use more so then some engines and probably the bigger factor in all of this probably isn't the engine so much as its the insane distance or OLM that lulls a lot of the driving public into driving their new vehicle off the lot and not even doing one short interval oil change because the manufacturer doesn't say different and if the dealer follows that logic as well. Selling the rarely needing to be serviced concept seems to go over well with the public that wants to get away with as little as possible for dollars spent on the vehicles maintenance and I bet there are 3.0 engines just like other vehicles out there that never have their oil checked by the owner which goes back to why they probably felt the need to add that extra quart to avoid a costly theme.    Speaking of cutting filters open, it was probably over two years ago now that a youtuber who buys vehicles to do longer term reviews and pulls a fifth wheel through the mountains of Colorado on summer trips and that becomes part of the testing. Anyway he had a GM HD with the 6.6 gas and a Ford 250 with the 7.3 gas at the same time and of no surprise the Ford had more power etc but somewhere along the way in the few thousand miles he put on the truck, he changed the oil and was seeing glitter and cut open the filter and yeah, things were not looking spectacular. The truck about that time or soon after seemed down on power compared to what it had been and then threw some engine code, I expect the cam/lifters were failing and so he brought the truck back to the dealer and made some deal to get out of it as he knew it would sit for months waiting on a new engine as they were so backlogged at the time. He kept the GM for some time after that using it exclusively until he sold it after buying his next vehicle to do a review on. Definitely the filter can tell a story when things are starting to go sideways, but it would be a sickening feeling to cut it open and be faced with an ugly mess like that and be running a magnet through the pleats and the oil on the dirty side of the filter and see all the fines sticking to the magnet.    The dealer may have some ideas based on experience as to where that coolant smell is coming from, I would imagine if they can't find it but its smelling they would put dye in it to they could give it a run cycle and use the black light to see where it pops up, if its a hose connection, water pump, rad or even a head gasket etc.
    • Good looking truck, suspensionmaxx looks like a solid option
    • Thanks for the info, im considering a leveling kit or 4" lift kit.
    • charm.li (website) has the vehicle-specific diagnostic procedure for that code, you can use to find what the cause of it is.
    • It’s at the point of amusement. I’m retired I have time. It’s fun seeing people try to convince me I’m using oil. I’m buying oil at the prescribed time. It gets drained and new goes in. Do I add in between, no. My oil doesn’t even get dirty in 5k miles. I don’t even see any drop on the stick. I check in the same place. All is well.
