Winter Sucks

I hate going to car washes, but with the temps outside dipping to 6-8 degrees overnight, washing it myself isn't an option. Not even sure how clean a car wash would get my truck anyway being the GG on the front would block the soap/water. Guess some cleaning is better than none, the salt isn't good for the paint. Does anything happen to the paint by leaving the salt on there for extended periods of time? I'm pretty sure the powder can stand up to the salt well, I hope my grille shell cleans up nice and I don't find too much salt damage.

 

The salt really messed up my new sheet metal gap guards I fabbed and painted. Guess Ill have to sand them down come spring and touch them up with more paint, along with my exhaust tip. I barely drove my truck this winter, just a few times when it snowed when I had to.

salt is pretty hard on stuff, especially when you let it lay on your truck for long periods of time. I read somewhere that when the temperature is below 32 degrees that salt is not nearly as active as when it is above 32. I try to take mine to the touchless automatic once a week if it is atleast 20 degrees. any colder and I dont bother. I also go to car washes that have the undercarriage spray. it seems like thats a good way to get the salt off the chassis. it doesnt leave it shiny and new but it blasts the salt off and thats about the best you can do in the winter. IMO

 

I hate winter mostly because of salt.

heck yea, I took mine to a car wash yesterday (20 degs out) just so I could spray it off myself. It had salt all over and has for awhile now since it has been nasty out. It looks ok got it off there are water marks and streaks from driving home. It started snowing again today so it will be dirty again soon.

+1. I go through a car wash with every fill up in the winter to get the salt washed off (~1 car wash/10 days). The only time I don't bother is when the roads are sloppy with slush.
