Buying New Tires/wheels For 2007 Silverado Nbs 4x2 And Need Help!

Hey guys, been a long time since I last logged on.

I am a first-time tire shopper and I need to buy a new set of tires (Ihave considered going one step further and just buying new wheels and tires). I own a 2007 Silverado NBS 4x2 with the factory chrome 17" wheels. The tires that came on it were P245/70R17's.

The cheap route I am considering is going for a set of P245/75R17's instead to make the tires look as if they actually belong on the Silverado (the factory ones look too small). Also, I dislike that the tires look like fat donuts without any rigidity in the sidewalls like I see on other truck tires. Basically, I want a tire with a well-defined sidewall if were to go this route. Any tires you recommend that will fit this wheel?

Also, I am considering upgrading to a larger wheel and tire and I really like the stock 20" wheels that come on the 2008 Silverado. If I were to go the route of getting all new tires, what are some things I should consider? What is the largest wheel/tire configuration I could go with without having to modify the wheel wells or the suspension? Can I go with wider wheels on this truck than the stock 245 width of my factory tires? What configuration do you guys run and do you have any pics to show me what it'd look like?

Lastly, any sage advice about tire buying or just anything else you want to add? It would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to get rid of the spongee look of the "P" tires, get LT tires load range D or E, Yes it's overkill for the load you can carry in the 1/2 ton but the sidewalls stand taller under the load of the truck

You could jump up to 265/70/17, or 285/70/17 on stock wheels which would give you more sidewall and also be wider. A taller tire will throw off your speedo a bit too. If you go with factory 20's just stay with OEM tire size and you wont have any problems.

Hey James where are you from? And is your truck the GMT800 or the newer style GMT900?

If you're anywhere near NJ i have a set of OEM 18" Denali wheels/tires/sensors (500 miles) AND my current 20" wheels/tires/sensors (2000 miles) that im trying to sell... lifting the truck a little next week and going with 33s (not buying the 33s till one of my current sets sell )

But to your original question: the size tire you can run greatly depends on the wheel width and backspace. If you're keeping the stock wheels and not lifting the truck at all i would go with a 265/70/17 (31.8x10.4). Your stock 245/70/17s are 30.7x9.6 so those 265s would be an inch taller and an inch wider.

If you go with 18s i would go with 265/65/18 (31.8x10.4)

If you go with 20s i would go with 275/55/20 (32.1x10.8)

I'm currently running 275/55/20s on 20x8.5" wheels and do not have any rubbing issues... im not sure how your 2WD sits in relation to mine though; it depends on which body style you have.

I have 285/70/17 LT on my truck and a rough country leveling kit and my front tires rub at full lock, not bad but enough to be annoying. so stick with the 265/70/17

Hi! I am from Texas so if we ever dealt on the wheels they'd unfortunately have to be shipped. I have the 900 model I am assuming (the model that began production w/ the new body style in 2007 that is currently in production). This may sound like a dumb question but can my 245's run 265's or would I need a new wheel? If so, what are the widest my 245's can safely run? My current stock 17's are pristine and if I could achieve the results I want with them I'd like to take that route.

Also, what is your asking price for your 20's? If it is a good deal it'd almost be worth shipping.

just to help you clarify a few things...

Your current tires are 245/70/17 and your wheels are 17x7.5 (which are 17" diameter and 7.5" wide)

For the tire size:

245 is the width of the tire in millimeters

70 is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width (so for this tire your sidewall height is 70% of 245)

17 is the wheel diameter.

A quick trick for calculating the tire diameter and width is as follows:

Width: divide the first number by 25.4. Hence 245/25.4 = 9.6" wide

Diameter: (First x Second)/1250 + Third. Hence (245 x 70)/1250 + 17 = 30.7" tall

So to answer your question... NO, your 245s cant run 265s since your 245s are tires, and tires cant run tire s ... but to answer what im pretty sure you meant to ask: YES, you can run 265/70/17s on your stock 17s
