Zane Posted September 25, 2001 Posted September 25, 2001 I feel bad for Bill Simpson, hes getting reamed a new one with all these problems.
Kansas Kid Posted September 25, 2001 Author Posted September 25, 2001 I don't feel sorry for the guy in the least. His belts are supposedly unbreakable, and its coming to light that they aren't. Maybe if he wouldn't have acted so foolishly claiming that his product is perfect, I would feel a bit different.
quadrunner500 Posted September 26, 2001 Posted September 26, 2001 That's unfair. Bill Simpson has saved more lives than you can count with his safety innovations. He's been victimized by the politics of Nascar. Mayfield's belt was a partial tear, meaning the belt did its job. Earnhardt (rest his soul), was a fool, ignoring advice not only from Simpson about the belt installation, but eschewing all manner of safety wisdom including an unorthodox slumped seating position, open face helmet. Drivers Rick Mears, Tom Sneva owe their lives to Simpson's products, like the nomex fire resistant racing suit.
