Top Speed Cutoff?

I was under the impression that these trucks were supposed to be limited to 97MPH (or something similar). Coming across IH10 in a remote area I was playing around with my GPS and decided to see how far off the speedo was at 100. It never shut off or ran up against a limit. I lifted at an indicated 117 MPH on the GPS.

What gives?

Oh, and the speed was about 95 on the speedo at an indicated 100 on the GPS.

Hate to start with the obvious but.... have you had any kind of aftermarket tune put in?

No tune. I have tinkered with parameters using PCMSCAN and my laptop but that's it. Everything was left stock.

Tire size? just wondering what would make a new truck have its speedo off by that much

Tires are somewhat larger than stock.

With larger tires, I believe that your actually going faster than the spedo says.

Yea that is what he was indicating by GPS saying faster than the spedo. I dont know how much bigger your tires have to be to be off that much but that is a mystery.

The RCSB truck may have the limiter set at 112 like the cars do..instead of around 100 like the bigger trucks.

Based on how much your speedometer was off...vs your GPS...you may have been RIGHT AT the limit...maybe just 1 or 2 mph shy.

There is also the possibility that you changed it when you were using PCMSCAN.

I would say..just enjoy that it is not set as low as most other trucks.:cheers:

I had a buddy that once had a RCSB....when we each got to about 98 my Crew and Extended Cabs would always shut off.....and he just kept on truckin'....till about 110 or so..

I don't think we know why his trucks runs to a higher speed. I don't think the regular cabs are different than other trucks. The tuning, pcm will be the same. Also the short trucks don't come with different higher speed rated tires to with-stand a higher speed. The tires on 2 wh dr will be the same and 4x4 will be the same. Its some thing else causing it. Probably a glitch in the tuning. :D

I don't have any need or intention of normally driving it that fast. I was curious how it would do at speed. 70 - 80 mph is plenty around here to keep up with all of the traffic.

I just thought it was odd.

Thanks for the replies guys.

OMG do you know how dangerous that is. Just for a short time going that fast ,it is very irresponsible of you. I am very disappointed in this behavior!!!! :D I am just messing with you. I just wanted to see what it would feel like to be a do gooder.:cheers::sigh: Being a do gooder is not for me lol. Oh mine shuts down at a 100. :P

Wait...you're trucks top out at 97-98??? My truck slams face first into the governor at 90! Pisses me off every time I try and pass someone on a 75+ two lane highway.
