Cranks But Wont Start

This has happened to me twice so far-very intermittant. The first time was in a parking lot, engine cranks over but will not fire. I pulled the air cleaner off of the tbi unit but could not determine if I had a fuel problem. I hit it with starting fluid to test, expecting it to fire and then quit-it started and ran fine. I shut it off and restarted multiple times with no failure. I asked around and was told that the fuel pump is possibly getting weak, so I pulled the bed and replaced the pump and strainer (6 weeks ago). No problems until yesterday-same situation. I have not replaced the fuel filter in about 15,000 miles and that is my next step. I searched the forum with no success. Is there a known problem here? and if so, what is the fix?

just throwing stuff out...same thing would happen to my 96 and turned out one of the wires wasn't on the starter all the way and wouldn't act up very often but it did happen

Another random thought. Your TBI could need a cleaning.

It's not really a problem I've read about happening a lot.

I had a 89 that had a rubbed wire near the frame behind the rear of the drivers fender, was the power for the pump, sometimes wasn`t able to jump the rubbed spot and woudn`t fire sometimes... just an idea, sounds electrical to me..

Check the wires going to the oil pressure sending unit to make sure they're not grounded...happenned to me.Until the PCM sees oil pressure it won't fire.

could be the iginition module going bad. I had a 90 and it was notorious about that. Try the ignition module or the fuel pump relay. Those were problematic as well. Just some ideas
