New From Colorado And Need To Fix A Denali Mirror!

My wife drives a black 2001 Yukon Denali XL- what a dream vehicle! I purchased it through eBay a few years back with only 17k on it and several upgrades. I paid WAY below book. It has been almost perfect- with 88k on it now. The A/C compressor shelled last year throwing metal into the rear air assembly, and I am just now going to replace the brakes for the first time! We had the driver's side door mirror get whacked this week and the lens shattered. I do most of my own repairs, but seeing oil dripping out of the lens has me wondering where to start- and how far do I get into this before buying a complete new assembly. It is the mirror with everything except the turn signal. I have always found forums like this to be the best method for self-preservation!! Thanks in advance for all help!

I have, but first I am wondering if I need just the lens or the entire assembly. eBay has several, but they only promise that their product "fits", and all are reproductions or "replacements". None promise to be a match.

Hey there and welcome to GM Trucks!

Have you tried GMPartsDirect for a new mirror? Or checked the pricing on a new mirror from a dealer. The dealer should be able to give you the part number you need.

My question is: what is the oil dripping out of the remaining lens pieces? My local 2 GM dealers were both OVER $500 for the assembly!! The replacement lens is $307!! This is nuts. GMPartsDirect is $247 plus shipping. eBay is $59, free shipping. Too much difference for these to be all the same items... even though they all profess to have the sam;e part numbers.

Are they the self-dimming mirrors? If so its probably the chromium (i think thats what its called) that gets charged and dims the mirror.

Oh and welcome to the forum

Don, I just bought the whole mirror assy thru Ebay for my 2006 GMC Sierra for $225. It is listed as a 2005 but will fit 2003-2007. I had to do a bunch of research to figure it out but with some patience, you can too. The local GMC dealer wanted $753 bucks for the same thing!! I also found a couple websites that have after market parts for 'reasonable' prices. Just do a search for truck mirrors for your year. One of them is : www.thecarpartwarehouse.com another is : www.thepartsbin.com

I am trying to start a topic for some assembly help, but I guess I'm too new yet....it won't let me. :dunno:

Good luck.....Scott
