OK all I know is that I have a 95 gmc...what the hell is it? C/K 1500? Z71? Sierra?? How can I find out, my title says pickup!?

Will the VIN tell me about my motor, tranny, axles (gears)??

I know i have the 350, is it a TBI? what does that stand for?

- It smells like it is running rich, what could that be?

Anything other info you can give me would be much appreciated.....I have read many posts already and have fixed many little issues..thanks

Thank you for reading my story!!

C1500 = 2wd 1/2 ton

K1500 = 4wd 1/2 ton

Your truck is also referred to as a GMT400

The Body style introduced in 1999 is a GMT800

The Body style introduced in 2007 is a GMT900

TBI stands for Throtle Body Injection it was one of the first GM methods of fuel injction. Physically, the intake manifold was the same as a carbureted manifold. The Throttle Body sat on the intake manifold and metered air into the engine. Inside the Throttle Body (TB) are the fuel injectors 2 or 4. Fuel and air is mixed inside the intake manifold on the way to the cylinders, just like with a carb.

Now, a Throtle Body meters the air at the top, front, or side of the intake manifold. Individual injectors (per cylinder) add fuel to the air as it passed the intake valve.

Very cool,

Thank you very much!!

If I have a "2 barrel" can I change it to a 4 barrel?

If not what can i do for power upgrades to this engine?

It has the intake and I will be putting true dual flow in it in the future!

You have fuel injection. There is no carb.

You can get a tune.

www.lmctruck.com has a free magazine and one online, They dont have 4 barrel TBI but they do sell a kit with bigger injectors with a bigger TB, I think its a 650 CFM throttle body. It may or may not come with a cam too.

Your throttle body is a "2 barrel". Upgrading your throttle body to a bigger cfm is not going to net you any real gains without upgrading some internals. The throttle body you have will more than feed your motor.

The potential upgrade list is long for your truck. Bolt ons include, Air intake system, throttle body spacer (these are junk for 96 and newer, but do work for your motor), headers, exhaust, under-drive pulleys, ignition systems, and I am sure there are some I missed. They also respond real well to a cam and new heads if you want to go into the motor.

Since your truck is a 95, you cannot "tune it" in what is the traditional sense now a days, because it is an OBD1 system. In order to do a tune, you have to have a custom chip burned for your upgrades. Which isn't that hard and not really too expensive. It would be a must to get the most out of any internal upgrades. You can go without, but you would be leaving power on the table.

Click here for info about a custom chip.

I have a 95 GMC with a 350. It's a great truck and still runs awesome even with 175000 miles. I haven't done anything to the internals, but I do have headers, Jacobs ignition, throttle body spacer, exhaust and filter and a hypertech chip.

Headers (long tubes)

I think a 1.6 rocker kit is available too for about 20 hp throughout the band. This effectively gives you a bigger cam.

Gears would also give you a bit of grunt.

Very good info guys thanks,

Probably wont go into the motor, but like the idea of 1.6 roller rockers! Will do the long tube headers when I get some moola, and chip it after that!

****new questions though, been driving it around town today and notices my stock oil pressure guage drops to around 20 at idle and goes up to 40 when throttling and cruising.

Am I screwed?

Nope,your engine(distributor drives the oil pump) controls the oil pressure so at an idle you'll have less oil pressure(20 psi. is normal...above idle 40psi. is normal) than when you're driving...seems normal to me
