Cargo Lamp?

Recommended Posts

I have an '07 SLT sierra and it doesn't seem to have a cargo lamp. There've been a few times that I've wished it did. Was this an option? Any way I could add one in a way that'll look factory?

Thanks!

I don't think I've seen one without a cargo lamp. Since yours looks to be an SLT, surely it has one. There isn't an independent switch for the cargo lamp like in previous years, it shares with the interior lighting. Just turn the knob for the interior lights all the way till the dome lights come on and your cargo lamp should come on too.

Shoot. I need to try that. That might be irritating, as I just want to be able to look back on my load while driving at night and having the interior lights on will make that difficult.

Does anyone know if you could possibly install a switch in the area below the radio and rewire that light so that you could put power to it with that switch? That would allow adz55 to accomplish what he is asking for. I don't see why it would be too hard. Possibly even leave the option to turn it on the way it comes to the factory, and then just splice in a power wire around that which goes to the accessory switch? Anyone? Sorry I'm not trying to hijack the thread...just throwing out a possibility.

That's what I'd like to do too.

I drove around for 1.5 years combined (an 07 and an 08) without knowing how the cargo lamps were turned on, a coworker told me I was full of it that they didn't work and figured it out. Little did I know that the dash dimmer would affect the cargo lamps.

Adz55, if you can find the part number for that switch, I can't imagine that it would be too hard. Really, any on/off switch would work to do the job, but I believe the switch below the radio would be the cleanest look if you have an open slot for it. If you find the part number, let me know. I might be interested in doing a little experiment with this project and maybe write up a how-to. Unless you want to do it and teach the rest of us! Sounds like a great project in the making!
