Rear End Interchange

Hello, I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 with 3.08 gears (no posi). I can get a 3.73 Posi rear end from a 2000 2500 Sierra for a fairly decent price. Will this bolt up easily or will it not work seeing its a 2500 model?

I want to change the gearing because i have a 4.3l that i use for towing (yeah i shoulda had a v8) but i figure with a gear change i should be able to easily tow anything Id ever want (5000lbs). And the Posi would be a huge plus for boat ramps and winter driving.

any info would be great! thanks!

JMO, but why not just get a new gear set? That wat you have warranty and all. I do understand it will cost a lil more, but IMO, it's worth it.

what does JMO mean? I would buy new. but i costed it out to over 500 bucks for the Posi carrier, 300 bucks for the pinion/ring + all bearings, and labour which would be several hours so it would be probably around 1500 bucks when im done. I can get a junkyard unit for 300 bucks cash no tax and i can bolt it on in the backyard, and ill still have my old unit if for whatever reason the junkyard unit gets destroyed.

why not find a 2000-2007 half ton axle with 3.73 gears out of a junk yard with the g80 locker option. your lug-nut bolt pattern will be the same, and everything should go right in place. Don't think you'll need a 3/4 ton axle for hauling 5000 lbs and under.
