08 Sd Install Finally Under Way

Well I finally had some time to start the install. The parts that are going in are from this thread: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...=88878&st=0

The tear down went fairly well. No big surprises or mishaps other than accidentally scratching the rear drivers door when I was wrestling the front driver seat out of the driver's door. I pulled a bone head move and left the rear door open. Slap%20forehead.gif I nicked the top of the body side molding and put a very small scratch in the paint. Its not that bad in all honestly most people probably wouldn't even notice. I will and that sucks though. Grrrr%20smiley.gif

Anyway here are some pics of the truck stripped other than some dynamat that I had in there when I put in the sub a while back:

Here are some pics of the Raammat installed:

Raammat vs Dynamat Extreme I would say Dynamat does a better job as a vibration dampener. When you hit the spot where the Dynamat is installed the floor makes a pretty good thud. The other side that has the Raammat installed makes a decent thud as well but it does have some ring to it yet. Now if you factor in price the Raammat wins hands down. Its less than half the price of the Dynamat and it still does a real good job as a dampener. I will however be adding a second layer of the Raammat to certain areas like the front floor boards for instance.

I did not pull the headliner or the doors yet. My hands got to dirty too fast to be messing with a light colored headliner. I'll save that till the next day I get to work on the truck. The doors on the other hands I will be holding off on till I have the main part of the interior down and mostly put back together.

Later this week I'll pull the headliner, Raammat above it, and start the installation of the ensolite. I can't remember if I have Wed, Thursday, or Friday off so it might be a while till I have anymore updates. Any questions feel free to ask.

Yep its a W205. I originally wanted to go with a W505 but I basically stole this deck. Ultimate Electronics was redoing their car audio display and let me have it for $199.99! I just couldn't pass it up.

On another I did some work yesterday with the Raammat and came to the conclusion that I'm probably going to be a little short. Mainly because I'm going to need to double up in a few areas that I wasn't planning on doubling up in. No big deal. Looks like I have Friday off so the next installment will be that night. The goal is to have the headliner pulled, Raammated above it, the amp rack (mdf board) mounted, amps mounted, and possibly the sound processor mounted. It might be a little too ambitious but I like goals.

Wow It is like seeing my truck. I removed everything but dash a few days ago. And I have the W205.

Note: the W205 has plugs on the back everywhere so it fits like shit in the dash. So the metra dash kit is the best(paint matched). and a Dremel with HD cut off wheels cut upper and lower metal. Very easy. And the 205 with mount flush with the dash. Also helps to remove the long wood/vents over the radio so you can see and reach in to move wires. I put the GPS and Sirius anttena in the stock nav stop under the dash. Must get power and ground from the harness no the interface. If you want DVD to work and swc and tr6 are a must.

If you need help let me know.

Thanks for the heads up. I already have the dash installed with the TR-7 module, HD radio adapter, and the steering wheel controls adapter. I also have the ipod cable attached. The one thing that I need to work on is flush mounting the deck. Right now I have it sticking out roughly a quarter inch. How much did you cut into the dash? I've got everything as far back as that large round brace in the far back. Because of where the ipod cable hooks up in the back of the dash the only way I'll be able to flush mount it would be to cut a decent sized chunk out of that cylinder like brace. I'm not sure if I'm too keen on that. I've talked to a few guys that have cut that brace and swear that they have had no issues. I'm just a little leary.

I cut out the top and bottom of the flat metal bracket off. The top supports a plastic holder for some wires. No big deal. The bottom supports whe wheel sensor "brain". I have always removed the metal in every truck I have done. Never a problem.

I wanted lots of room as my rear cam cord,I-pod,reverse harness,RCA, all het the metal. How is your radio come in? And want dash kit did you use?

Cutting is the only way to go flush. and then on the metra dash kit make sure you sand down the two small plastic tips of the center frame in the kit as when the radio is mounted far back and the screen flips it will hit the small tip and stop.

Radio looks VERY bad when it sticks out of the dash. Makes it look like a cheaper radio!

I've already removed the flat peices of steel in the back of the cavity. The problem is the ipod cable sits smack dab in the center of the cylinder like brace that the flat peices of steel mount to. In order to retain the ipod cable and get the radio to sit flush would be to cut that brace out. At the time that I mounted the radio I wasn't to sure about cutting that brace out. When I go to put everything back together I'll take a closer look at what all needs to be trimmed more. To be honest though the radio sticking out a little bit never really bothered me a whole lot. There were plenty of other things I have been more concerned with. I appreciate the help though.

Right now I'm using the scosche dash kit. It actually matches very well. I do wish the fit was a tad better but for the price I paid I'm not going to complain. I haven't had any issues yet with the screen hitting on this kit. Maybe thats just an issue with the metra kit? I don't know.

Maybe different but the scosche kit was just every day black gloss plastic and the netra was paint matched flat black. My W205 is like 1/16" from being 100% flush. But as the dash kit has a curve it would never be 100% flush anyways. I removed the upper wood trim and could look down and lift the Ipod cable up just the hair it need to fit. but it was the closest plug after teh cut.

Sorry if I missed it but what amps and where are they going?
