2001 Chevy Silverado Ammeter Issues

Please help with any suggestions... When I drive on the freeway and reach sppeed of 60+ MPH my ammeter/volt meter gauge drops and stops charging, then I reduce speed and it jumps back up again. At times the red batery lite on dash comes on then off. Only happens when I am on the freeway. Been driving for months with this issue and battery is still good and I'm still on the road. Help please!!

Sounds like the voltage regulator is going out during higher and longer RPMs its overloading and shutting down I would replace the alt. But first make sure all your cables are good and tight and check those grounds!
