Hey ya'll...i have a 1999 Gmc sierra z71 5.3L...i got dual exhaust y-piped...magnaflow. It sounds pretty mean i think...but i was looking to get some more performance and better flow...and wanted to look into gettin some new headers...so i was wondering what are some decent headers for a reasonable price...i don't wanna spend more than $400...that's including install also...i don't have toooo much cash since i'm only 17 and a junior in HS. haha...i'm guessing it'll be about 75-125 per hr for labor...so any thought on where i should start? thanks for any help with prices or any stories about how much your installs cost! : )

Then add $1000+ for shop time at a dealer or major repair

shop cuz as seen on many of these GM forums your gonna

have a few broken exaust manifold bolts and its gonna cost

plenty to have them repaired.

Why bother with headers? Just get out the sawz-all and cut the

exaust pipes off just behind the exaust manifolds.

Won't cost anything and you won't have to worry about the possible

broken exaust manifold bolt issue.

And boy-howdy its sure gonna SOUND FINE! and you will be the

envy of the school parking lot with the baddest truck there !!!!!!

Then you could use the header money you saved for some neat

goodies like twennyfours and a cool set of spinnaz wheels and a

bunch of kaizan stickers and don't forget a nice wing for the back!

You are going to have a tough time finding a set of long tube headers and getting them installed for $400. Not saying it's impossible, but not likely. Unless, you find a set used. Don't waste your money on a set of shorty headers.

Do you have a tune on your truck? If not, or if you have a hand held tuner such as hypertech, edge, superchips, etc...you should get a custom tune. By far the best bang for your buck. You could take a totally stock truck with a custom tune and blow the doors off a truck with all the bolt on goodies (CAI, headers, exhaust and a hand held tune)

Check out www.blackbearperformance.com or Wheatley performance tuning. You will not be sorry. The truck will have more power, more driveability, more throttle response, and just over all more fun.
