Heard today the government is going to require trucks to get 24.1mpgs by 2011. Plain crazy. I'm lucky if I average 16 right now.

Why ? The current models with AFM are getting over 20+mpg.

Someone here a while back posted a video....DIC was showing close to 25mpg (highway of course).

My truck can get over 20mpg if I keep it at 60mph.

My truck will barely hit 20 mpg going downhill in neutral with a tailwind...I'm averaging around 13 myself.

I'm averaging 17mpg in my 6.2L Yukon. That is 75% highway, but still pretty impressive seeing as how I like to drive 70-85mph as much as possible.

The 24 mpg is an average not just highway. Cars & trucks are going to have smaller displacement engines in-fact some cars do now. Some new Cadillacs will in 2010 have a 3.0L turbo.

i don't know what everybody is doing to get these high fuel economy numbers. i average 15 mpg; 85% highway @ 70mph, and in town i drive like an old man. truck only has 4K miles on it so maybe it needs to be broken in some more

14.7 avg (with new tires) for me according to the DIC...(6.2l 6speed and 265/65/18's haven't taken a long trip with my 275/65's yet) On the highway however, I am getting over the sticker mpg approx 21 to 22. Although none of us are extatic about our gas milage, remeber we could be driving fords (Those poor bastards). My old F150 SCAB 2wd 4.6l got 13 miles to the gallon with a drop in K&N filter and everything else totaly stock..Even the new 09's are not getting the advertised mileage...By the way in case your wondering about my driving style, I usually drive 70 on the freeway (getting on it on the on ramps), old man in town, and on the highway it's straight up cruise on 75 (although I do get it up to 80 or over when I have to pass on a one lane).

My problem is I drive mainly really congested city streets and half of the miles on my tank are usually loaded and/or pulling a trailer...Yeah I like to stomp on it every now and then but I've been taking it easier lately for the most part. My main hog factor is the fact I'm running 33" all terrain tires which have a pretty high rolling resistance. My stock tires netted me almost 15 mpg running around town...On a pure highway trip I got about 17-18 doing 75+.

Well you can't expect high numbers when you drive 70mph 85% of the time.. I drive 85kph and have 4.3 with 3.42 and i dont think i have ever seen less than 20mpg in the summer.

Anything over 60mph and you'll see your mileage drop imo.

Anyways i think we will soon see many more small v-8 and v-6's with turbo's in the next few years.

So basically AFM the crap out of these trucks, with a 5.3, and come up with like an 8 speed tranny, because 4 or 6 speeds wasnt enough, lower the trucks, make the sheet metal even thinner, and run like a 2.89 gears.......

Sorry just had to rant......

Trucks are meant to be trucks

People are well aware when buying them the costs and mileage associated with them
