2009 Gmc Sierra With All Terrain Package....exhaust

I am definitely considering the Flowmaster Dual Turndowns, the 40 series. I love the sound of these. Any thoughts? Should I get these or something else. Any info or experience on the Turndowns would be greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend a programmer or tune to disable the AFM if you go with 40 series turndowns. It will sound like hell when it switches into V4 mode.

Not a fan of the FM series other than sound.

They rust out fast and you'll loose low end torque on the 5.3.

I'd recommend Magnaflow, Borla, and Corsa :lol:

I used to run flowmaster. Rusted out very quick, does not flow well. Switched to Dynomax and I am very happy with them. I'm running the Ultraflow muffler and it sounds great with the 6.0. I do need to get a programmer or a tune to turn off the AFM. Like stated before, it will sound funny when switching from V4 to V8.

I have a magnaflow and love it. And there is not really any difference in sound when in 4 mode.

There are a few threads about this if you search for them.

It somewhat depends how loud you want your truck to be. Personally I'm going to just replace my factory muffler with a Magnaflow, at which point I'll also probably disable AFM (it's already tuned with HP Tuners, so the switch is easy to flip). I just need to figure out what magnaflow part fits up in the factory position without having to add or modify the rest of the pipes. I want to just be able to clamp it in and avoid welding it together.

hey dont want to threadjack but i JUST got a 08 silverado w/ the 5.3 and am looking into a corsa MUFFLER and dont understand what you mean about the AFM?

AFM = Active Fuel Management.

It's the system that shuts the engine down to 4 cylinders when there is no load on the engine (cruising at highway speeds on a flat highway, going downhill, etc.). It will sound terrible when it kicks into V4 mode if you have a loud exhaust.

Nice truck, get some pictures! As for exhaust, go for a Corsa Sport system. Umpteen times better than a junky Flowmaster system when it comes to flow (read: power), quality, and longevity (top of the line stainless steel vs. aluminized steel that'll rust after one winter).

I don't recommend flowmaster either. Had a flowmaster 50 series delta flow dual exhaust on my old avalanche.... Never again will I own anything associated with flowmaster. sounded nice with a good tone, but droned like hell on highway and absolutely killed the power where you needed it the most (low end and towing)

thanx guys. is there any chance i would be able to purchase just the corsa sport muffler and have a custom place weld it up. not really a fan of the look of the bolt on kit. and the price tag. thanx. adam
