Westin Nerf Bar Step Pads

Anyone have this issue with the plastic steps pads on your nerf bars? I have already replaced the one I use to get in the truck with new clips and all and it keeps popping out. I'm thinking of gluing it on but dont know if that would work. For some reason the plastic stem part that goes itno the bar keeps wanting to bend when I press them in. Any solutions?

If it wants to bend that leads me to believe that the hole is too small for the new clip to fit into correctly. perhaps a small file would be able to enlarge the hole just enough for the clip to fasten securely and without hassle.
