H2 Cd-player Issue

Hi everyone, I just bought a 6-disc cd-player to replace the one (same that came stock in the truck) that's fried. I can do the install, but the GM dealership out here is telling me that they have to program the radio to the truck(I've never heard of anything like that before) instead of just typing in a code that unlocks the player. I'm just wondering if there's another way or option to do it, or if it's even true. They want to charge me $105 just to do it. The player that I bought was pulled out of either a 2004 or 2007 H2 that was totaled, I can't remember which. My truck is an 03, any help would be appreciated. thx

sup kevin, I know that what they told you at the dealership may sound strange, but the newer trucks do require the Tech 2 be connected to the radio so they can reprogram the VIN number that has been stored from the previous truck. If you do install the radio into your truck, the radio will look for the VIN number that is contained in the BCM and if it does not match, it will not work....sorry man

Does the radio reqire the tech 2 or can I have another shop do it, one that wont rape me for five minutes of key punching that I could probably figure if they just gave it to me, lol. Thank you for your help by the way.

You can try another dealership, even a non-Hummer one like a Chevy or GMC.
