What Should I Pay For New Sierra

I got my eye on a couple of 09 1500's 4wd extended cab. one stickers for 35,230 the other 35,050. One dealer offered to come down about 2100(to 32,921 for the 35,050 msrp), the other about 2000 off. I also will get the 4000 rebate and i got a coupon in the mail from gm last week for 750 and i got $3000 gm card earnings that i can use all at once.

I was thinking of offering 32k. No trades, just a cash deal.

the one truck has been on the lot along time.

is that offer fair. should i offer more, less?

You should really wheel and deal with the dealership! Trust me they are desperate to get rid of trucks right now! I just bought my new 09 the other night, I was at the dealership for like 6 hours playing hard ball with those clowns. Sticker was 35,199 and I walked out paying 26,000 out the door! It sounded rediculous to the sales guy when I told him $26,000 was the most I could pay, but after me laeving the dealership acouple times and playing hard to get they said whatever and gave it to me icon6.gif

So just do alittle shopping around and low ball the hell out of them, good luck bro!

Sorry, but $32k on a $35k sticker is overpaying. According to what you have said, they are already offering $6k off which puts it at $29k, minus your $3k in card savings. I would try to get it down another few grand before card savings.

And ALWAYS be prepared to walk. Salesmen know when someone is interested and play ball accordingly. if they know you'll walk but you have the cash, they'll deal. besides, i can't see that many dealers playing hardball when their new car sales are down 50% over last year.

ok, i will start lower

jakemartinez7,

so you paid $30,000 for your nice new truck?

then the $4000 rebate got you to 26k???

If so, you came down over $5k off sticker. i assume there was no trade.

Just to give you an idea of what I paid in August of 08; I have a 08 GMC extended cab 2wd SLE1 with the Texas edition package. MSRP was 30,505 and we agreed on 22,500 sales price. This included the rebates at the time; so around 8k off the MSRP in a nutshell. I was only able to use 1500 of my gmcard points (they do have limits on what u can use). This further reduced what I was paying for the truck but when they add back in the sales tax it was pretty much cancelled out the gmcard point allowance.

I would imagine they are offering better deals now than what I got back in August.

Work them down as low as you can get them and at the end bring the GM card earnings in. That is your deal that you have worked for above and beyond dealing with the dealership.

Man you can get that price way lower than at. Id start at 26K. They are desperate.

They may be desperate in some parts of the country but they sure aren't here. They are making deals but the prime models are in short supply since GM has throttled back their production. 6,000.00 off is a really good deal on a new truck now. I'd bet $2500 off of sticker plus the rebates is about all you can hope for. Those who think dealers are willing to sell for half price are dreaming. :rollin:

Up here I walked into a dealer, told him what I wanted. They came back in less then 10 minutes. It stickered at $36,200.......they came down to $27,900. That was rebates, disounts, etc. TTL extra.

I didn't hagle with them, this was my initial to see where they were at. This was for a 09 Ext. cab z71 4x4 5.3L with some nice options. This was with no trade, and for a truck that was at another dealer. I thought that was pretty good, this was back at the end of Feb.

I bought my truck back in july 2008. It was an 08 they had on the lot for a while but the sticker said 33k (if I remember correctly) and it was out the door at 22. It all really depends on where you are. BTW I didnt play hard ball or anything I said I want this truck, I am already aproved through my bank, after rebates I told them it was too high and I wanted it for 22 out the door and they said ok. Good luck!

Where are you located? Better yet, what is your zip code? Even better yet, get me a VIN and I'll see if I can pull the factory invoice.

There's not much front-end gross profit in these trucks (prolly about $3000 or so on the truck you're looking at), but dealers will almost always dip into their holdbacks on these trucks to be competitive. Plus, there are always rebates and bonus cash available, and in some cases, there may be some additional manufaturer-to-dealer money, known as "trunk money" in the biz.

Lemme know either the VIN, or at the very least, your zip so I can see what incentives are available in your area.

You also have to remember that the deals will vary from month-to-month so you really can't compare what deals people got 6 months ago. For example, when I bought my truck in August, I got a net-net $9k off, but the rebate was also at $5k. There was about a $2800 spread between MSRP and Invoice and then I was able to get all the holdback money, plus there was an additional $440 in trunk money since my vehicle was built before a specific date. All these factors are important 'cause you have to know how much the dealer has in the truck. Yes, there are instances when the dealer will go all-in and then some, but it's all about timing. Trust me, timing is everything in the car biz. My point: if the rebate were $3k rather than $5k, then you'd be getting a net-net deal of $7k off. That would be an awesome deal for what incentives were available at the time of purchase. This is why dealers list incentives on a monthly basis; otherwise, everyone would wait to buy on one month out of the year.

Lemme know, I'd like to help.

Also: Zembonez is absolutely right! Dealers have finally gotten their inventories structured to that of this economy. Are the deals still out there? You bet, but you're not gonna' see the push to be as aggressive as they once were when they had 240 days of inventory. Not only has production been cut back, but dealers are not taking on all of their allocations.

nobrakes,

my zip is 12205. the current rebate is $4000 plus i got a 750 coupon from gmspringoffers. they did have some additonal incentive on trucks that had been on the lot for a while, that gave you another $1000. but that expired march 31st.

I see you are from Texas and that may make a huge difference. there are many cities in Texas that actually have low unemployment and are growing jobs. In these places I wouldn't expect any dealer to be struggling.

In my neck of the woods, the state's largest dealership and the 12th largest in the entire country is down nearly 45%+ on new car sales over last year. They have had a judgement issued against them for credit default and two of their other dealerships are in default with GMAC credit. I'd bet they would be willing to make very little profit if they can just move inventory and lessen their burden owed.
