was at a local dealer yesterday and they had a 05 gmc serrai with 41,000 miles, leather, slt package 4x4 x-cab, z71. they were asking 21,000. Blue books for 20,000 i was thinking of making a offer but not sure where to start. Im pre-approved from the credit union for 20,000 but if i can get a 05 alot cheaper.

That seems a little steep to me. Around my area an 05 with 41k miles would be around 13-16 depending on condition and options.

I dont think Blue Book values are up-to-date with the current economy... If its nice, i would offer 15 and probably wouldnt go higher than 17. They probably only paid 10k for it as a trade in.

**see what these trucks are selling for in your locality though... maybe 20k is a good deal..

edit: know what you could do..... call up the dealer and tell them you have a 2005 truck (same as you're looking at) with say... 38k miles on it and in excellent condition. You're thinking about trading it in for a new vehicle and want a "ballpark" estimate of what you would get on trade in to see if its even feasible, and that if it seems realistic you'll bring the truck in to get a more accurate trade-in value and to check out some new trucks. (watch them tell you $8k)

I can assure you that they do not have more than 15K in that truck. Clean 05 models do still bring good money though. Somewhere in the 17K range would be a fair retail deal. After all it's a 4 year old vehicle. (but still a great truck)

I got my 07 crew cab for $19,000 with 33,000 miles on it, and they gave me a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty to go along with the powertrain.

Granted mine is 2wd and doesn't have leather, but it does have auto climate control, steering wheel controls and remote start

The truck in my sig...2006 Silverado with 18K on it (when I bought it), loaded to the roof (LT3 package, etc) with the 5.3 was selling for $21,999 on the lot. They guy took $1K off the price to bring it to $20,999...and mine's a crew cab.

I think the truck you mentioned is worth around $17-$18K. I would shoot them an offer of $16K and see what they say. And I would not pay a penny more than $18K for it.
