Electric Window Switch Or Regulator?

Recommended Posts

I have a intermittent problem with my drivers side window on my '02 Silverado. The window will not go up once the switch is activated. After 3-5 tries it will eventually work. My truck has 56,000 miles. I read a number of older posts that indicate GM has a quality/reliability issue with the regulators. Should I attempt to fix it myself or take it to the stealer? How difficult is it it to replace the regulator, if I decide to do it myself? Thanks...

You would need to know basic electrical and how to use a multimeter to be able to test to see what is wrong. (Or you could just replace things until you get it, but if it is a wiring problem, this will not work.)

Then to learn to take apart the door, I find it best to look at the factory service manual and go to a wrecking yard and first practice on the same model vehicle there.

Easy to wreck something when taking off a door panel. Once you can see what is inside, then you know how to take it apart without damaging it. And the factory manual will point out hidden screws.

Then you can try removing the regulator on the wrecking yard vehicle. Many times this is just basic mechanical ability. Some have it, others don't.

That's a hell of an idea.

Sounds like a switch to me. If it is the regulator / motor, you should be able to hear it "trying" to work when you operate the switch. It will click or hum a little like the motor is in a bind.
