i have a 2004 gmc sierra and can't figure out how to turn the headlights off at nite. tried using the parking brake before starting and it doesn't work. any suggestions???

i want to turn them off manually at nite so i can have the truck idle without blinding people in a parking lot. truck was sold in canada so the headlight switch won't turn them off going to the left.

Try setting you your emergency brake a click or two.

Hmm, I was going to chime in and suggest turning the knob to the left as stated above...worked on my 2005 silverado. Then it hit me that mine came from the Boston area. Why the heck would it be different between the US and Canada?

Maybe try the parking brake.

Switch out the factory light sensor on the dash with something that has resistance such as an LED. By doing this, the truck will think it's light out all the time so you will lose the auto-headlight feature permanently.

It might be part of the mandatory DRLs that Canada has.

Oh yeah, good call Chris. I know that turning the knob left shut off my auto headlights at night. I never did think to check if it would shut the DRL off in the daytime. That's probably it.

Yes, it's required by law in Canada. I'm a huge fan of daytime running lights, saved my ass on the highway a few times as it makes the speed of approaching traffic a LOT easier to judge. But I think it's pretty silly that if you're parked you can't turn the damn headlights off temporarily.

Apparently having a certain module on your vehicle (IPC?) flashed with a US-built VIN will reenable the feature.

I disabled my auto headlights so now my truck always thinks its light out. So i have full control over my headlights.

I went under the steering wheel to the BCM and tapped a wire between the 2 wires for the dash censor...
