tallspawn Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 So I have the remote start prep package, what's needed to get it working (besides the new fobs of course)?? There are several options when looking at the accessories I'm not sure what part number I would need. Also, could I add the 2-way instead?? Sorry if this is a no brainer....Thanks!!
VMax2007 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 New fobs and the dealer needs to program them. That's it.
tallspawn Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 New fobs and the dealer needs to program them. That's it. So if I buy just the remote start fobs off ebay, I'm good? Wonder how much they charge to program....

Wonder how much they charge to program.... My truck came prepped for RS, and the dealer gave me the fobs and programmed them for $250 total. I doubt you'll save all that much by buying them off ebay and then paying for the programming. Also, if there are issues, the dealer won't be able to blame your fobs if you buy them from them.
mr_bots Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 You have to buy the kit. It includes a code that the service tech has to call and give GM so they can update your VIN and release the BCM update so they can download it to your truck. The part number for the kit I ordered is: 17801236. It just requires AP8 (the remote start prep package).

Talked to the dealer and they told me that GM instructs them to no support just programming the fobs. You have to buy the kit (basically two fobs with an instruction sheet that has a unique code). 17801236, which has multiple versions of the remote based on the vehicle. Give the last 8 digits of your VIN to the dealer to get the right one. Mine was 165.75 in stock, and programmed for 44.

sonjaab Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Bots and Lewis are correct !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNLESS you have a bud at the dealer that may have that or another one of the "codes" that are still good. Then you could do the e-bay thing! Scooter.............Check your RPO code list for the AP8 code ! But I don't think the gmt-800s have it...............
LawmanSS Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Yeah, I'm pretty sure you need to go aftermarket for remote start on the 800's.
