Brake Light Issue

I have a 1998 GMC Sierra and I am having trouble with the brake lights. When I press the pedal the brake lights will come on for a split second but then as I press further they shut off until I get the pedal almost to the floor then they come back on again. Can anyone help with this?

I would check your brake switch which should be above the brake pedal. Also check the wiring to the switch in that area.
