2009 Gmc Sierra Duramax

I was looking into a new duramax. Does anyone have any experience on the 2009 model. What do you like about it and any issues you have had? How is the mileage towing?

It should be virtually identical to the '08 model, minus fog lights and rear window defroster. As you know, they added a crap load of emission controls on the '08 Duramax models and this has had a negative impact on the fuel economy. These vehicles go into a purge mode every once in a while and the mileage drops to something like 12 MPG during that period.

 

From what I read, expect about 18 MPG overall and about 14 MPG when towing a 6,000 lb trailer for a 4X4 crew cab.

 

Of course, there are a few who get 28 MPG when towing a 15,000 lb fifth wheel up Pike's Peak.

My Dad traded a 06 on a 09 and loves it,great truck and mileage is very close to the 06.

I have an 08 crewcab, traded an almost identical 02 for it. The 08 has a lot more power and the six speed allison is much nicer than the older five speed in the 02. Considering the extra power that the 08 has, mileage isn't that far from what the 02 was. I would not want to go back to the 02 - I really like the 08 with LMM engine.
