How To Remove Wax From Black Plastic?

Recommended Posts

OK, i've had this problem with just about every vehicle I've ever owned. It seems once wax gets on black plastic accidentally, and especially if allowed to dry, it's there forever!!! Of course it is worse with flat back or textured pieces.

What solvent and/or technique is best for trying to remove it?

Peanut butter. No kidding.

...seriously? Hmm...I'll have to give that a shot. I have wax smeared on my windshield trim that I'd like to get rid of.

Vegetable oil also works. I feel it's a little easier to clean up than peanut butter is, and it kind of leaves a nice shine, even after you wipe it all off.

Cool. Do you smear some on and wipe it off? Or do you let it sit for 5-10 minutes? Suppose I can try both....

I've used Mother's Back to Black, has worked for me and it helps keep it from fading...

Cool, I'll try that. Apply with a butter knife, scrape off with cracker, eat it, then lick till clean

Good old Bug & Tar remover works great for removing stray wax... I found out the hard way once when my kid decided to help me wax my truck.

turtle wax ice ....

Last time i detailed my truck i first did the claybar, then instead of my usual meguiars, i tried the turtle wax ice.... Very easy to use and u can wax pretty much everything with it! I did my flares , bumpers , chrome!! Excellent product and it smells awesome! I had the white residue all over my flares and its still gone!

There's a product called Wax Blaster...it's designed to remove wax from plastic trim. I've also heard of the Mr. Clean Eraser dipped in alcohol...

OK, I did the peanut butter trick and it worked. Now, does anyone know how to get chipmunk tongue marks off of my plastic?
