i am getting out of the army and my luck everything goes bad in my truck 3 days before i have to ship it, she idles perfect when you rev her she acts like 2500 to 3000 is a rev limiter, she moves good as soon as you let off the brake but as soon as you press the petal she boggs down hard, and i mean hard and has no power what so ever, i cant figure it out, replaced distributor, coil, wires and plugs, replaced the Throttle positioning sensor, egr valve, took the valve covers off and the rockers and valve are working good, and she has great fuel presure. all the spark plugs are new and look good with just the normal burn marks. i have dumped 1000 into trouble shooting this and now im just short of wanting to blow her up.

shes a 94 silverado, k1500 5.7 4x4, i cant figure it out anymore but i need to the army is dropping her off 650 miles short of my house and i have to drive it that far and that will take a week at 20mph lol please help

It sounds like what you don't have is time!

Without testing various things properly along with a factory fuel and emissions service manual (get these from a dealer), you would just be guessing as to the problem.

If I were in your shoes, I would either take it to a GM dealer and have them fix it, or find some way to tow it home. You can get a vehicle trailer from rental places. Maybe you could get another truck or rent one and tow it home? If you do this, DON'T get in a situation where you need to back up! These things are impossible to back up!

As to fixing it with a fuel and emissions service manual yourself, this would take time as well. There is a lot of learning to do if you are not familiar with using a multimeter. And then special tools are sometimes needed for things like measuring the fuel pressure, etc. And it takes time to go buy these things or read up on how to do this or that.

Go to a muffler shop, and have them check the catalytic converter. This will be your best bet, especially if you are not getting any dummy light to come on. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I second the Catalytic converter being the likely culprit.

ive cut the cats out, she has a mild edelbrock cam, intake, msd probillet distributor, jet chip, hooker super comp headers true duals flowmaster. someone told me its my computer but i love my truck but i almost want to just go blow it up i cant take this, its my luck that right before i have to ship it it does this

Well there goes the taking it to a GM dealer for service option.

3rd party mechanic?

Well don't worry, there are always options to problems such as this.

Is there anywhere you could leave it for awhile where the Army is going to drop it?

Maybe at a base or at someone's home in the area?

Could you ask around and someone might find a place where you could park the vehicle until you could make other arrangements?

If all else fails, walk into the nearest VETS club and yell "Help! I'm stranded!". It is my experience that people are good natured and will help a fellow out when needed.

No dummy lights come on? If they do, then do the following:

TECH TIPS

Reading Codes/OBD1-Pre 1996 Models

1. Locate ADL port below dash.

2. Insert paperclip or similar wire. (see photo)

3. KOEO (Key On Engine Off) watch SES light.

4. SES (check engine) light will blink out codes. It will flash, then short pause, then flash again, then long pause between codes. Example: flash, (pause), flash, flash (long pause) is code12 for no RPM. This code is always present.

Example 2: Flash, flash, flash (pause) flash, flash, flash, (long pause) = code 33. The computer will continue to scroll through the codes and generally begins and ends with 3 code 12's, with important codes being shown in between.

If you do this, and you still don't have any codes, take that TPS sensor off, and get it checked out at a local parts store. Pretty much, the only parts of the truck that would cause that much havoc on a pre OBDII trucks are going to be a the cad. conv, TPS, IAC (Idle air control), EGR (not sure if those truck came with one) and ECM. Map sensor would have to go into safe mode of it went bad. Even if you had a vacuum leak, the truck would at least run.

-Start with getting the codes.

-Remove the Jet chip

-Get the TPS checked out at Autozone or similar auto parts store (they check the resistance)

-Then, clean the IAC valve and EGR valve with carb. cleaner.

-If all else fails, I would suspect it is a computer related problem.

Let us know how it goes.

thanx ill do all that tomarrow mouring, i alrady put a new TPS in her and changed out the egr, i did a redneck test on the IAC but i didnt clean everything out, i didnt know you could pull codes with a paper clip we do that alot on the humvees here in the army lol, so much you can do with a simple paper clip, thanks for the help ill try that i was acctually starting to lean towards a slightly cracked head which of course i dont have time to change but it was barable a couple weeks ago and today she will barly idle when 3 days ago she idled fine so whatever it is its getting worse and fast

i pull DTC 83, i believe i have a stuck valve or maybe a crack in the head, but i believe DTC 83 could mean a stuck valve, its gonna be tough but tomarrow imma try to drive her to the port and hope they dont notice lol
