so im turning 18 in 18 days and i called to see how much it would be to have my truck insurance under my own name and they said it would be $1800 a year for full coverage which is what i have now and that is ridiculous

right now im only paying $1000 a year for full coverage under my parents name

and my $8900 2007 Grizzly 700 insurance for a whole year is only $165 and has "Full Coverage" thats $3400 more than i paid for my friggen truck....

Welcome to being a kid. :D

Leave it on your parents account if you can. If you are wanting to do this to be responsible and do things on your own, pay them upfront so they never have to front you a single dime. I'd assume they'd be fine with that arrangement if it saves you $800/yr.

Yep...although I am only 24, my insurance is far less.

I pay around $94 a month for full coverage, with a $500 deductible, glass coverage, and roadside assistance.

And once I hit 25, it should drop even more.

+1 Insurance at your age can completely break a guy trying to get ahead. It makes you think about not having it and taking your chances, but that would end up costing more in the long run. Work with your folks and try to work out a deal, like Daddy said, pay them up front. The last thing you want to hear is "I've been paying for your damn insurance while you're out running around"

Back in 1991, I turned 25, got married and my driving record cleared all within a few months. My ins. went from $150/mo for liability ONLY on an 8 yr old Buick Regal to $125/mo for FULL coverage (100/300K) with full comp/glass, collision, etc on my then one year old 89 GMC AND my wife's car.

Yep, being a single guy under 25 with a couple moving violations will kill your ins rates.

Thats what I thought. At 25 I lost my good student discount (college) and I actually only saved $30 a yr. When I got married it dropped it like $50.

I was always on my parents' insurance, even through college. Saved a lot of coin. My parents always pay yearly, so I just wrote my mom a check right before she paid it. That way she wasn't floating me. Although I would like to think she trusted me.

I saved $240 on my insurance bill (6 monthly) after I turned 25. That's almost $500 per year and I didn't even have to switch to Geico. :(

Woo Hoo, welcome to the rest of your life

Just get married, have kids, and in 7 years your insurance will go down.

It's really cheaper to do it this way...really.

I stayed on my parents insurance until I was 20. Then when I bought my '07 I put it on my own name and it stayed about the same. $1200 a year.

Insurance isn't too bad around here. I pay around $700/yr for full coverage with a $500 deductible. What is strange is that my wife's '07 BMW is almost the exact same as my truck.

I've found it less expensive to have my buddy's lawyer wife take care of all my tickets by reducing them to non-moving violations. The judge usually just makes me pay double the fine and reduces it to a parking ticket. Afterall...all the local municipalities want is the revenue anyway...they could careless about points.

Join the military. My wife's father was in the Air Force, so we get military insurance (USAA FTW!!!!), and the insurance for the car and truck together is $185 a month. Now thats nice!

My 2005.5 Jetta costs MORE to insure than my 2007 Sierra. :(

I pay around $1200/yr with a $500 deductible for the Jetta, the Truck and the 24' pontoon.
