2000 Sierra Reverse Light Problem!

Recommended Posts

I have no reverse lights on my 2000 Gmc sierra. I just got the truck about a week ago had no reverse lights then. checked bulbs.. my manual says 3157 bulbs?? its that correct.. the guy before me had 3057's....i didnt get a chance to change them out yet.

but i did change the neutral safety switch and still nothing and the fuses r still good.. so whats the problem???

the only thing is the new neutral safety switch had this like metal tab on it that clips on the to the main circle that the transmission shaft goes through and that cheap piece of crap tab fell off and doesnt stay on for nothing.. Do i need that!? it looks like all it was for was to adjust the shaft to get the linkage back on. my safety neutral shift i had on there didnt have a tab so thats why i think i wouldnt need it..

Check the fuses.

Check the wiring in the rear with a multimeter to see if you are getting power on the back-up wires or not. If you don't know which wires are which, get a factory electrical diagram book and it will tell you which color wires are for what.

Then check any connectors under the rear bumper. See if you are getting power to the back-up wires or not.

If no power, then I would get a factory electrical diagram manual, then this will tell you what switch turns on the back-up lights, and most importantly... WHERE that switch is located!

Then test the switch to be sure it is working or not. If working ok, check the wiring.

Factory electrical manuals and service manual sets (4 books) are available from your dealer.
