Hello there!

I just purchased a 2002, 4.8L, auto trans, Silverado.

I LOVE the truck, my first American auto!

She has 102K on the clock. The previous owner is my boss and has been upfront and honest about her.

He informed me the ONLY service he has EVER done was change the oil every 4K. :sigh:

Being an X-tech for MB, this drives me crazy!

I need to flush the brakes, coolant, power steering and pumpkin asap!

as well as a good ole fashion tune up!

anyhow, since the trans has never been touched, im very worried about some big expenses down the road. Is it safe to crack the trans open with this many miles and drain and drop the pan and replace the filter?

What about a complete flush?

Also, I'm a mobil1 guy, is it safe to convert to a full synthetic at this many miles?

Truck drives great, shifts smooth right now...

I want to keep her that way for many many miles..

THANK YOU!!!!

No worries. Just drop the pan, replace the filter. Re-fill with fresh fluid of your choice. You can then follow the tranny flushing directions to replace all your fluid. Of course if your pan is full of clutch material and/or metal you may have reason to be concerned.

Not a problem.

You've got a good maintenance program laid out.
