Need Help Changing Starter In 01 Gmc Sierra

I have removed the two bolts, but I cannot seem to move the starter out enough to clear and drop it out. Is there a certain trick?

Thanks

Are any of your wires hanging you up? On mine I needed to remove the oil level sensor connector just to get it out of the way so there would be no chance of damaging it. Other than that I removed 2 bolts and slid it forward. Also on mine there is a transmission cover that is attached to the starter that you usually remove after you've pulled the starter out, wonder if it's hung up on something around the bell housing?

The main thing I see, is a support bar sitting right in front of the starter. It wont let me move it forward enough to clear that bell housing. I dont think its hung up on the bell housing, but I sure cant move it forward enough to get it to drop down.

I unplugged that sensor that sits just below the starter, but I cant get my big hands around to remove the wiring up front.

I pulled one out of my 01 Tahoe when I swapped the trans. It was a royal PITA IIRC. I had to push a bunch of stuff out of the way but it finally came out without removing anything else. I recall a lot of angling trying to get it out. It was not just a pull back and falls out type of thing.

That makes me feel a little better. Atleast Im not the only one who has struggled with this. I will see what I can do this evening.
