killkenny84 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I have a 08 silverado 5.3 liter with 3.73 gears and i was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what cams to get or what they have installed. im stupid when it comes to cam numbers and im looking for performance gains not just a thumping sound.
txab Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 You might do a search. There are several threads that discuss this topic. Personally I'd go for a custom tune first or go the hand held route. You might get everything you're looking for from that alone. If you added a cam you still need to get a tune to get the full effect of it.
Zembonez Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 That truck should have AFM. You can forget about swapping cams if so.

No not just the tune. It has special lifters that collapse. The lift, duration and lobe separation need to comply. There is a cam company that is making cams for AFM, but not many. If you going that route, I would say screw AFM anyway. I will add a big +1 to getting a Custom Tune first. Check out the link to the left of the screen for Black Bear Performance. I recommend it first for two reasons...1) You will be shock on the difference afterward and may not want a cam. 2) Justin retunes for free. If you get a cam you are going to need a tune anyway, so try a tune first if you still want more, get a cam then have Justin retune your computer to match.
