i have a 2009 GMC Sierra, i know that the passenger door locks when you put the truck in drive. i was wondering if there was a way to change the setting where the door unlocks when you pull the handel (after putting it in park).

I would assume that there would not be any sort of electronic sensor which would detect that you were pulling on the door handle. So therefore this would not be possible as a simple modification to any settings anywhere.

As to being able to pull the handle and have this unlock a locked door or open a locked door... And having this be an option by a large vehicle manufacturer...

A few words come to mind: Vehicle theft, lawyers, liability, safety, etc.

I would imagine that things are the way they are to prevent vehicles from easily being broken into, and/or maybe as a safety thing if there is a young child riding in front, might not want them to be able to open the door easily. If things were not this way, someone would sue if anything happened, etc.

As to getting your vehicle to do this, you can do whatever you want. It is just how much would it cost? If you can't figure out how to do this type of thing yourself, then you would need to hire a mechanical wizard who could modify the door opening mechanism for you. Or an electronic wizard who could modify the electrical system for you.

On a F*rd you pull the handle and the door unlocks, has been that way since I can remember with my dad's work trucks and every other F*rd I've been in. So not 100% sure liability and everything have much to do with it.

Check the DIC settings for the different ways the doors lock and unlock.
