Custom Air Intake

I want to put a cold air intake on my '07 with the 5.3L, but don't like the price of the K&N or other aftermarket companies.

Is there a way for me to piece the Air Intake myself and save a few bucks? I like the K&N cone, but wondering if there are any companies out there that make the solid pipe that goes into the throttle body that also the sensor can plug directly into?

Airaid has an intake tube that you can attach the MAF to. Personally I like the AEM filter, but that's my personal preference, you'll get a 100 different preferences.

Airaid MIT intake tube and K&N drop in filter and you're set.

Don't get the cone filter, its actually a hot air intake then and you'll likely lose more performance.

You'd have to seal it off from the rest of the engine compartment or get one of the aftermarket boxes that utilize a cone filter..... But then you won't be able to see it like it seems like you want

I am not a fan of K&N filter's, Imo they are an overpriced piece of junk that has been proven time and time again, they don't imcrease H/P and they are very poor at filtering out dust/dirt.

They are used in racing circles but imo they are only used for constingency money, plus the fact these types of motor get rebuilt at least a few times annually.

Do a google search, lots of info that will basically say the same.

We did a drop in K&N in my wife's Corolla and we've noticed a nice MPG gain of 2-3 since.

I've seen the Airaid tube on ebay for about $120. Does that sound right? I'd probably pick up an air filter at Autozone.

I've always had great success with my K&Ns. Follow the instructions and don't over oil them and they work great.

$120 sound right for the airaid

I've got an Airaid Intake tube that's sitting in my garage--I'll sell it to you really cheap. Pm me if you're interested. All hardware and instructions included...

Here's a couple findings, the one from "Bob is the Oil Guy" (www.bitog.com) is one I would believe the most out of any review. Surprisingly it didn't fair as bad the Amsoil one but it is still not good. (I hate Scamsoil as well)

Read for yourself and choose for yourself, I am not saying your nuts in the head if you run one, I am just saying they are not for me is all.

Do you have a link to the AEM filter? I have a good price on the intake tube. :fume:

I have a drop in filter and I just installed an airaid intake (MIT). So far I am pleased with it. Don't expect big gains of either mileage or power (it does help W.O.T. power but its minimal with ANY intake system). Where you notice a big difference is the sound. The intake will give your engine a much deeper sound. I was amazed at how massive the stock intake tube was. I knew it had sound baffles, but I didn't ever look at how many and how big.
