Aftermarket Rotors For Gmt900 Silverado

Recommended Posts

Posted

A buddy of mine in Germany is wanting aftermarket rotors for his Duramax Diesel GMT900 Silverado. I sent him an e-mail to get his VIN and all of the truck particulars. I THINK it is a Dual Rear Wheel PU Crew Cab. I'll know fer sure soon.

What is a good (internet) source of aftermarket Rotors, and what brands do you guys recommend/have experience with? I have never been the aftermarket rotor/brakes route, so I am short on experience here.

They will probably be ordered, shipped to me, and then I will ship them to HIM in Europe. He is kinda hosed on the afermarket parts issue, as no one carries that stuff over there --- or at least he is having fits finding a local supplier. He even tells me that the local brembo suppliers can't get US spec Pickup parts for him. :) (what a pain). My company assigned me to Europe not too long ago. Believe me, I FEEL HIS PAIN.

Must be :D for him.....

Just trying to help him out here.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

I don't recommend aftermarket rotors, unless you know exactly why and what you are looking to improve. Slotted or drilled rotors may improve fade resistance - may. The will not improve stopping distance - pads will, but not rotors. But, drilled rotors, unless done well, could crack. I have seen it too many times. From my track experience, quality solid rotors are recommended until fade becomes an issue, and then the first solution is to install cooling ducts.

Rotors are very heavy, and tend to be very expensive to ship. Another reason to just buy them locally. If you can find someone offering free or subsidized shipping, it might make sense to get them online, otherwise shipping can run $20++ each. :D

Bottom line - get quality OEM or aftermarket (NAPA, CQ) rotors (blanks) and send him those. If he insists on aftermarket - Powerslot, Brembo, Stainless Steel Brake Corp (SSBC) and there are a couple of other good brands.

Yeah, I am thinking he may be best served to just get Raybestos (recommended by my local GMC parts department) or other quality replacement rotors to OEM spec as you suggest. Either way, just tryin to help the guy out.

My guess is that is what he will probably end up doing just that.

Awesome to know... good find. I had a set of Rotorpros drilled/slotted rotors on a vehicle in the past and the quality was awesome, however the price was way high compared to the ones you posted.
