8.1 Mileage While Towing?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what mileage there getting towing heavy trailers on the highway. Im gonna be towing a 9000lb boat 1400 miles from Ma to Mn and seeing what to expect for mileage! Its an 01 eclb 2500HD 8.1l/Alley with 140,000 miles

Keep the speed down under 65 MPH for the best results!! Even with my Dmax, I start noticing a difference as soon as I start letting my speeds creep up.

About 8.5 mi/gal average towing a 10k 5er.

I agree. That is the biggest factor especially being you have 4.10's.

So far we are getting 13.7 MPG empty. On May long we pulled up to Rocky Mountain House which is a good hour and burned 1/4 tank, not much more than going empty. I know you can't go by the guage like you can numbers but I forgot to write the numbers down. The road there is steady up and down in the foothills of Alberta. We averaged 70mph......not because I wanted too it just kept creeping up there. I love this truck!

 

Our 01 6.0 would have burned twice as much gas and couldn't even break 50mph on flat ground with the identical load.

That is true im getting 11mpg around town if im lucky but last winter i drove to northern maine in a blizzard and drove about 50 to 55 mph for 200 miles and surprisingly got 14.7 mpg driving on snow covered roads in 2 wheel drive and that was also going up and down the mountainous areas. I didnt have much cargo though just the 500lb toolbox in the back.

Same truck (fewer miles) SB, CC. Same Hypertech tuning everything else stock. Rolling on same sized Michelins. Living in northern Nevada. Pulling a bumper-pull trailer (loaded out ~8K#) and keeping it around 65mph I am getting around 9mpg average between hills and flats. If I head up to Tahoe from Reno (anywhere from 1500-4000' climb, depending on where you go) again, going 65 where I can, wide open on some of the steeper climbs I am managing around 7.5. From Reno to Winnemucca (pretty flat, no strong winds, ~150miles) I took it easy and got 10.7.

We'll see what happens later this fall when I start hauling a 4-horse LQ goose-neck with three hay-burners and all the assoc. gear.
