My First Gmc

Seeing the favorite years thread made me dig out the photo album for some scans. I purchased this truck new in 1978 for $5900, 11th grader I was. Drove it up until 1992 but as you can see in 1986 it took on a drastic change. I good friend of mine at the time had his own custom body shop talked me into making it a short wheelbase. The bed was off a brand new 1986 GMC that was converted to a panel truck. We cut out like 18" of frame to accommodate the new bed and notice the High Sierra Trim Package we added also. Suspension was a Skyjacker 6", tires 36" Grand Prix's, 350 Engine, Edelbrock intake, Holly Carburetor, Blackjack Headers, 3 coats of DuPont Imron Paint and 3 coats of Clear. She would top out a 10 mpg on a good day.

My dad also had a 78' GMC but with the 5.7 diesel.

Thanks guys. Almost cried the day it left my possession. I was going to work at the Hospital I work at now and that meant driving it on a daily basis, which wasn't economical at all and I needed money at the time. Plus it was in need of rebuilding the engine, tranny and rear end.

That reminds me of the 1985 C-10 I had. Just a nice simple truck. Only problem on that year was a terrible electronic carburetor that was just awful. Additionally, the air pump was a completely stupid idea. I liked the simple lines and overall toughness of the truck though. It had that great older vehicle smell. Also had one hell of a time with the ignition module in that HEI distributor.

Sometimes I do reminiscence about it but the climb in and out would probably ruin my back now of days.
