Oil Leaking Hose A Problem?

Ok here's my situation. We are haeding out on a trip in a week. Went to do a oil change today and notice there are 2 oil lines coming out of the rad which have oil on them. I know oils lines have been a problem on previous vehicles I have had.

So what is the failure pattern for oil lines, do I need to get these replaced right away or what do you think?

They are the 2 lines on the drivers side, I assume they are Engine oil lines?

Here is a picture, let me know if you think I should get this in the the dealer Monday.

Our Trip will be pretty hard on the vehicle, 6000 lbs of boat, 6 people in the crew cab, and 5 hours of mountains.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Doug

That doesn't look very good. I wouldn't like to see those compression fittings leaking. That's the same type of fitting on the trans, a/c, and power steering lines. I haven't seen any leaks in those hoses/lines on my truck so I don't know why those would be leaking.

Those look like the oil cooler lines, They should run to the area by the oil filter. This seems to be a common problem on some years and you will likely find dealers who have them in stock. Is it a serious problem, I doubt it because it appears to have been like this for a while and has not failed.

I probably would get them fixed if the trip it as you describe just for the peace of mind.

Thanks, let me also add that this is a 2007 with 6.0L and 52,000 KM's (about 30,000 Miles) so it is still under warranty. So if I take the time to take it to the dealer, they will change them under warranty right? It's always busy the week before vacation running around preparing, but obviously this will go to the top of my list if they will change them.

Thanks

Doug

So I took it in to the dealer first thing Monday morning, at the end of the day they calle dto say they had to keep it over night. Today after lunch my truck was "ready". I am looking at the work ticket as I leave, and the diagnostic states normal and no repairs done. So my truck spent almost 2 days in the dealer under warranty and they never did anything to it.

I had not been to this dealer before, it is a new location, and close to my office. So I thought give them a try. It wasbusy there, and the service adviser was nice enough, he did understand my situation, long trip coming up etc. It sounds to me like they were afraid they wouldn't get paid by GM for replacing the hoses.

I'm pretty upset, because I'm loading up 6 people a 6000# boat and going through the mountains for the a 6 hour trip, It is going to be hot and be giving the truck a real hard work out. So much for trying to be prepared!

I figure oil seapage at the crimp is an indicator of a failure coming.

Also, what is the warranty on this type of part, is it covered in the powertrain warranty or am I going to be on the hook for the costs when it fails.

What would you suggest I do, take it to another dealer? Is GM really being that hard to deal with right now? I have purchased a lot of GM vehicles over the past 33 years, and I take real good care of them, but I also expect safety and reliability.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Doug

I'd have to call and have a little chat w/ the service manager myself....

If your going on vaca you better buy that hose and just keep it with you along with the tools to change it if it fails. When you get back just return it if not needed.

Don't let a hose ruin your vacation...you'll be thinking about it the whole time your driving. :dunno: If you have it with you you'll put it in he back of your mind.

My son's S-10 4.3 V6 had the same leak. He went about 6 months before he finally fixed it if that makes you feel any better. I burns me that GM has a problem on a 1999 vehicle and still hasn't fixed it on a '07. FYI a lot of guys say that the replacement lines are no better and may leak also. Our solution was to keep the hard part of the lines and replace the rubber with 1/2" (I.D) oil cooler hose. It requires heating the hose with a hair dryer to force it over the line then we double clamped each end with quality hose clamps. It's a fix we got off of an S-10 forum and it's been working fine with no leaks. I haven't heard of any problems with this fix on the forum either. I got the info here: http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f107/repair-...r-lines-343472/ and purchased the hose for less than $10 at rockauto.com GATES Part # 27065 {1/2" x 3' (400 psi)}

If replacement is similar to that on my '02 Yukon, it's not something you can easily do while on the road. I had to drop the transfer case to get enough room to route the replacement lines. These are long lines with lengthy steel tube sections that don't bend.
