ajcain79 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I got my new Blackberry Storm a couple of weeks ago and I just found the DynoStorm app. It's the same as the Dynolicious app for the iphone. I don't think I have it calibrated perfectly yet, but i thought i would share my results for my truck anyway. BTW: I have no engine mods at all and my truck weighs 5460lbs. I've got the 6.0L with 4.10gears. First of all, it says that I've got 250rwhp. That means I have a 32% drivetrain loss. Does this sound right? I was expecting somewhere around 295rwhp. 0-60 8.24sec 1/4mile [email protected] What are your thoughts?
GasHog369 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 where did u find this app? i have the lg dare, i am searching thru all the apps and dont see it ??? never mind , i see its the storm only.... and iphone
mxfreestyle Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Where did you find the app at, I want to try it out
svensk Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Do you have a tune yet? Because you probably still have a 4 second delay until PE mode kicks in the blackberry just thinks you have less power than what you really do. That 0-60 run is pretty consistant with a truck putting down 250hp to the ground (like a 5.3L). Because I look at that 0-60 time and then look at the 1/4 mile time and go WTF O'RLY?
2005LT Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Something to keep in mind with those numbers is how the data is collected and what it's based on. I assume it uses GPS to track your speed/acceleration and in conjunction with the vehicle weight (which you enter I am guessing?) it calculates horsepower. I've never seen or used an app like that before so I'm not familiar with how it works. But if it's like I guessed, then things like wind, road slope, tire size/inflation etc are all going to affect the number it spits out. Most of these factors wouldn't come into play on a chassis dyno.

Most of these factors wouldn't come into play on a chassis dyno. This app does not use gps. You input the weight of your vehicle and the app measures g-forces. I suppose it calculates horsepower from there. It also has an option to enter drivetrain loss to give you crank horespower, but who really knows exactly what the loss is. I'm going to the scales in a few days to get an accurate weight for my truck.
ajcain79 Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 Where did you find the app at, I want to try it out The app is called "DynoStorm" Go to "App World" then click on "search" and do a search for "dyno". DynoStorm will be the first result displayed. It costs $12.99 and you must have a PayPal account to pay for it. Also, this app is available to anyone who has the iphone or the itouch. It's under a different name though. I think it's called "Dynolicious".

I don't have a tune....yet. I am very interested to see what the difference will be. That's whats so cool about this app. I can do a test run after installing the intake. Another run after the exhaust gets done. And a third after the tune. I will get to see how much gain (or loss) of hp each mod does for the truck.

2005LT Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 That's kinda cool, didn't think it could use an accelerometer. Technology these days... I guess 250 HP does sound a bit low and you're right, it would be difficult to estimate drivetrain losses to get crank power. But, I probably would have guessed that it puts down about 280-290 at the wheels considering drivetrain losses and the lack luster GM tuning.
Sinkhole Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Are those 0-60 and 1/4 mile times at the bottom of your post actual times? If they are its not too far off. If you actually ran a 15.94 @ 81.1, I would dare to say your 60' is probably much higher than the apps guestimate of 2.56, based on the MPH. Based on those numbers I'd say your actual 60' is closer to a 2.80.
