Window Tint

I talked to Ziebart about tinting my windows and they will not go below 30% because it is illegal. I noticed a lot of people on here who are running tints that exceed your state's max. In reviewing the various statutes, every state with a tint law also has a provision making it illegal for anyone to apply a tint the violates the statute. So, how did you find a shop that would do what you wanted and not worry about the statute? If anyone has any references for the Indianapolis area I would appreciate the info.

FYI, I just ask a shop to install the % of tint and they simply do it...never given a second thought to the law but the law is not strictly enforced in the south (State of Texas) due to the heat going on :troll:

Tint Pro in Plainfield off US40 by Andy Mohr Chevy. I found them by word of mouth. I had my Tahoe done and my brother had his malibu done. They do very good work and will take future vehicles there.

Two cars...two stories:

My Truck...I got 25% up front to match the rear. I found a guy buy asking some kid at a car show I saw w/ BLACK tinted front windows. He gave me the guys name/number and I showed up to his shop the next day. Cash only ($100), no paperwork, done in 1 hour! :troll:

Wife's Sequoia...went to a legit shop and they could only do 75% up front by law (CA.). They would not match the rear glass for me. For my wife, it was enough as it was done just to cool the interior down and protect the leather.

I think the laws of your state will dictate what you can/can't do. I live in CA, there are laws against everything here!

+1

I used Pro Tint for my last two or three vehicles. The guy does a good job and he has good prices.

Hit up the yellow pages... the shop I found basically just said "You understand this is illegal tint and they could ticket you for having it, right?" I said yeah, and he said "ok, we'll do your tint."

The paperwork from them specifically says "The tint installed on this vehicle is intended for off-road use only. We are not responsible for the vehicle being driven on public roads with tint installed."

Asked a place in Gainseville, Ga and they said $70 for 35% or $80 for 20% or anything under 35% bc it's illegal. Pretty good deal, regret not getting it done while I was there... Now I'm back home and the place I went to won't even tint the front windows at all since it's illegal here..

Here's what you do, it'll save you a ticket for illegal windows too:

Go to the optometrist and tell them that you work nights and your eyes are extremely sensitive to bright light. Then you tell him that you are wanting to get your windows tinted dark so that you won't get massive headaches when driving in the daytime. He'll write you a letter, stating that he (as a physician) recommends that you have dark windows.

Show this letter to the shop doing the work and then keep it in your glovebox. If you get pulled over for your tint, show the officer your letter and go about your business

This is what I did and it works. Several of my friends and co-workers have done the same. Granted though, I do work nights (have for 5 years) and I do get mean headaches in the daytime on a sunny day.

Also, if the shop still refuses to tint your windows, ask them if they can recommend another shop that might be willing to help you out

hope this helps

Also if you had laser eye surgery you can get a note because it makes you more light sensitive
