Blower Motor Staying On

Recommended Posts

The blower motor on my silverado 2500 HD 6.6L is staying on even though i have turned the ignition off and opened the door. the radio and everything else shuts off.

Check the electrical connector running to the fan speed resistor...odds are the connector has melted from overheating and shorted out.

The more info, the better...

What year?

Make? (Chevy, GMC)

Model? (Sierra, Suburban, etc.)

Engine? (4.5L, 5.7L. etc.)

2 wheel drive, 4x4 etc.

Air conditioning controls: Manual levers, electronic, Automatic, etc.

Anyway this could be a problem with a switch. Or with newer electronic controls, there are computer modules controlling everything. There could be 3 electronic control units between your switch to turn on the fan and the fan itself.

If it is running with the vehicle off, you can remove the appropriate fuse to keep your battery from running down. Look in your owner's manual for fuse information.

As to fixing it, you pretty much need a GM factory wiring diagram manual or service manual set (which includes wiring diagrams) to find the specific problem.

Also need a multimeter. And need to know how to troubleshoot electrical problems.
