8.1 Intake?

Hi evreyone,

Im picking up an 04 yukon xl 2500 with an 8.1 and was just curiuos what peoples thoughts were on an intake kit, I never had problems with K&N but AFE seems to make more power,please let me know whats the best choice, also what programmer offers the most

no progammer....custom tune it like blackbear tuning or like that i have is a westers 91-93 octane hot tune.... VERY impressed

Ok, but what about the intake. ALso i was gonna leave the cat for now and do a flowmater big block 50 series, whatdya think. thanks

i have the k&n cold air kit and i like it alot and keep the cat on they acutally flow very nicely as what i have read no need for a high flow cat. as for the muffler.... idk on that one until someone says ill gain more power than me havin 3 inch true duals all the way i wont change it. that big block rumbles very nicely opened up with no muffler i think. so if anyone wants to chime in on adding power by a muffler chime in cause im interested as well

So your saying leave the cat, with real 3" all the way back and no muffler at all, and its not to loud in or out?

where can i get that westers tune you have, do i have to send my parts/ecm somewhere? thanks

My Gosh, don't waste your money. You already have a CAI. KN is complete JUNK! You will gain nothing with it, except inferior filtration. Keep buying the delco element for the 8.1, and you will have the best intake available.

Stock flows good enough already. But if you must a Volant CAI with an AEM dryflow filter will work

you pay for the tune and tell them what you want on the online mail order form and once you get your new pcm you must send your old one back immediately within 5 days or you get charged for it

dont know about them but most use either black bear or westers and i dont think there is any difference as far as i have read... i do know that with westers turned my 8.1 into a complete freak of a truck.

what differences did you notice with your truck from the stock tune?

well... it dropped my 0-60 time from like 8.4 to a range of 6.2 to 6.5 depending on how i hook up after 60 it still would go decent now it drops like a hammer and after 100 it really starts to move oddly quickly i have a couple good kills when a mustang thinks that when they hit high speed that a truck will die off.. thats not the case anymore. definitely impressed i just wanna hook some spray to it now..

If you do end up choosing K&N , go get the same size/shape air filter from Amsoil .

No oiling , just vacuum and it breathes alot better .

so should i just peice it together a k&n or afe or one of those for the tube and the box and just get an amsoil dry filter?

The factory box flows perfectly. Just add a good quality air filter (dry) and you are good to go. AC Delco filter or a Amsoil(Donaldson) filter.

Ours has the AC Delco HD filter, and I was truly amazed how clean the MAF was. The throttle plate needed a cleaning, but I will stay with the factory box!! Will add the donaldson filter though.
