Speedo stepper motor is wonky. Mine went a couple of years ago. Too old & too many klicks to be covered by the TSB unfortunately.

My dealer did mine a bit back under the TSB. I had to de-program so that the speedo calibration would be back to factory when I brought it in - but other than that - no hassle at all.

Looks like this happens to a lot of the GMT800's. It happened to my dad (2003 Silverado) and it happened to me (2004 Sierra).

Why does my GM Dealer said they will not replace it without me paying $125 for diagnostics and if it is ths instrument cluster then they will not charge me? I am afraid if it is not failed all the time they can not find the problem and I'm out $125. any ideas?

You don't have much of a choice. They'll be able to duplicate the problem during their test. Sometimes you gots to pay to play.

I had mine replaced earlier this year because of noise coming from IP. I went to a GMC dealer and they ordered me a new one and chrage me nothing to put it in. I also heard that GM extended this recall to trucks that have over 70k miles, but only catch is they would charge you labor in that case. Why they wanted to charge you a diagnose fee does not make sense. There is a recall with the IP and it is covered. Try going to another dealer, thats what I would do.

I ran into the same problem. They confirmed that I had a defective cluster with the vin but since I was slightly over the 70,000 mile mark they wouldn't replace it. After arguing they said they needed to run the diagnostics at my cost and then they would discuss a possible split of the $700 replacement cost. I told them to bite it hard and got a stepper motor from ebay for $10 and replaced it. Easy cheap fix.

Check e-bay. There are several cluster rebuilders over there that

will do the job for less than $200.

Thats is you don't want to do the stepper motors yourself.
