Nitto Mud Grapplers Vs Toyo Vs Couragia

Ive seen some tires and had an opportunity to get some decent deals on them. I need 35x12.50x20

What is the overall difference in your opinion and no I don't care about noise)?

Also, budget is also to be considered.

Ok, I can go to a shop I know and he says this all mount/balance/etc:

Couragia: $1000

Toyo: $1400

Nitto: $1300

What's your take? Any other tire suggestions considered....

Doesn't this belong in the Rims and Rubber section?

Anyways, I did quiet a bit of research on these tires.

Couragia's:

Cons: I found that there were quite a bit of people with sidewall blowouts on the but most of them were during towing.

Pros: They look cool and they are cheap.

Toyo's:

Cons: Not many

Pros: Great price, decent wear, looks cool

Nitto Mud's:

Cons: LOUD!!

Pros: I've heard that these get decent wear and they are good for all types of environments (i.e. rain, mud, snow). They are fairly inexpensive.

I went with the Nitto Trail Grapplers for an extra $100 over the Toyo's and I love them. They are still new in the market so I haven't heard of anything bad yet, which there probably will be because there is always somebody that isn't happy. IMO if you want to keep the price down your best bet is the Toyo M/T.

doh! brain fart on my part.... i was thinking of the Nitto TRAIL Grappler when i replied, not the mud grappler.

in that case.... out of the 3 tires you listed id definitely go with the Toyos. I havent personally owned the mud grapplers but theres too many reviews about harsh riding characteristics and questionable tread wear.... so id play it safe and get the toyos.

I agree with above. Either Toyos or Nitto Trails. The trails are just sexy and will be on my truck when it's time to change tires. But if you are set on those choices then for sure Toyos.

I don't mind the sound much but I've heard of the mud grapplers eating up wheel bearings. Ever beard of this

Honestly none of those tires last for shit so go with the cheap ones. I'm going with couragias next time. They are cheap and look awesome. The mud grapplers are terrible for on the road. Friend of mine just got 12000 miles out of his toyos and he said they are so bald right now if he came near any wet pavement it would be a serious problem.

I'm sure someone will come in and say how long their toyos lasted and I have also read reviews of people saying their couragias lasted 40k so i dunno. My next tires are 35x12.5x20 couragias. They will be on by winter.

only nittos i woudl consider are trail grappler m/t. Still and M/T but more reasonable for the road and same price.

Steve, your buddy go offroading?

I've seen the same tires last ~10k miles on a truck that goes offroad or is driven with a really heavy foot and last 40k miles on a truck thats not offroaded and driven normal.

Ya hes got them on a turbo diesel so its got alot of factors going against them. Heavier truck, more power, he off-roads it a little, etc. Its just like everything you read some people get 50k out of tires and some people get 15k out of them. I just did a quick google on the toyos and reviews are all over the place. Some say wear like iron some say dead in 12k. I dont know what think anymore.

I know the tread compound and construction of the tire has alot to do with the wear characteristics, but im starting to think more and more that driving habits affect it more. I bet I can get those couragias and get 40k+ out of them. Hell I have been trying to kill these procomp extreme a/ts for about 45000 miles now and they just wont die. They are now to the point where i have about the same amount of tread as a brand new all season radial tire and its been like that way for a while im just sick of them looking small so Im gonna replace them before they are worn. I could probably get another full year out of them if i tried.

Regarding the toyos though, i believe the trail grappers are a bit cheaper and really are probably the same compound as the toyos, and you can get different sizing options. Trail grapplers have the 35x12.5x20 or the 295x65x20. (35.5x12) the 295x65x20 is a NICE tire for those running 8.5 and 9" wheels.
