new tires and rim width

Im looking to purchase some new tires for my truck Torn between the BFG KO2S or the Cooper ST Maxx. Ive a set of Ballistic wheels which are 9" wide. My question is i see all the tires i want either in 265/70/17 or 275/70/17 say they max rim width is 8.5".

So has anyone actually tried or know if these tires will fit and if so will they look baloonish? I know 285's say 9" rims. Just not sure i wanna go that route.

Plenty of guys run a 275 width tire on a 9" rim (including myself). I think they look just fine. However, I don't think I'd want to step down to a 265. IMO, 275 is as narrow as you'd want to go on a 9" wheel. With your leveling kit, you should be able to fit a 275/70/17 tire just fine.

If you go to my profile, there's lots of pictures in my gallery. And my 275/65/18's will be very close to the same diameter as a 275/70/17.
