Please help. Car at stealership now ABS LIGHT

Here is the rundown..

2001 Chevy tahoe LT 5.3

94k miles

I started the truck this am like any other morning, got driving down the road and saw the ABS ligt on, thought crap thats no good. Got to stop sign and shut car down, thought maybe if I reset the system. However when I shut the car down I could still hear the ABS pump running (im assuming thats the noise) this was with the key out ignition off and everything! So at that time i opened the hood and pulled out the ABS Fuse hoping IF the pump is not bad already maybe I will save it from being burnt out!

Its at the dealership now, and Im not sure what to expect when they call....Any ideas? If it IS the ABS pump is this a DIY kind of deal? I am handy and not afraid of break jobs and other some what "larger" DIY kind of deals..

Anyone experience this?

There is a guy on Ebay that is selling rebuilt ABS modules that have failed similar to your description.  Look at auction #7923482108

Humm

Good call, that HAS to be my problem by what happened this am. I will at least let the dealer run the Diag. and see what they say. Worst is I spend 200 v.s 1000 or whatever it is they want for it.

Has anyone had this problem, or used this e-bay guy? Seems like he has good feedback

I had the same problem, but before I found out about companies who repair the modules. Fortunately I have a friend who works at a local dealer and he goodwill warranted the part for me...good thing because the part alone was over 800 bucks. If and when the problem reoccurs I will be calling upon the services of one of those companies. It's a very common problem, some resistor in the EBCM that fries after a certain amount of key cycles...from what I hear the repair cures the problem permanently. I think that there is a website called circuitsolutions.com or something like that.

Here is their web site.

SO I got the call..

$998 bucks! AND they say there might be a bad wheel sensor too. But they say that may be caused by the pump shorting stuff out.

SO I think I'll try the DIY fix with the guys on that link..

Thats insane 1k to fix that crap!

Do not let the stealer fix it. Pull the ABS fuse and the pump will stop. Go to the circuit solutions website and they will tell you what to do next. It is very simple and will save you 7 or 8 hundred dollars.

The wheel sensor didn't short the module, it's a common problem. Save yourself a grand and get it fixed by circuitsolutions...then take the money you saved and by us some beer! Just kidding.

If there is a separate wheel sensor problem the light will come back on, but it shouldn't hurt the module, the ciruit is protected by a fuse for that. I've personally never seen a sensor short, they usually go open or get high resistance. Good luck, hope it all works out. :smash:

Were you able to get the module off without pulling the brake lines? Were the screws rusted on?

s**t, The funny thing was..

You can't see the Torx screws well, so its all feel as for knowing if the key is in there. So I am under the car spinning this torx key trying to get it to "sit" down into the screw. Well the whole time I am turning it it feels like the thing is striped out . Turns out I was just un-screwing it by hand! The d**n screws were finger tight!!

Im sure it helpes that my car has never seen any snow/salt comming from FL!
