First rain with my 07NBS and I my roof is leaking.

It's going back on Monday for a 'leak' test.

I'll let you know the results.

Anyone else with similar issues on the GMT 900?

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some owners may comment of a water leak from the drivers side of the sunroof assembly. This concern could be caused by a blockage of the drivers side sunroof drain hose in the cowl. In some cases, the drain hose may be too long and the end of the hose is bottomed out against the body sealer.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To correct this concern remove the cowl screen and wiper assembly to shorten the hose. This will provide additional clearance between the end of the drain hose and the body sealer.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. My truck has been through a lot of rain since I bought it last July. I went out this afternoon after it had been raining for a few hours and on my way home I took a sharp left turn and water poured out of the dome lights! About a cup or so drizzled out and the only place it could have come from is the sunroof. Water may have been in there before, but only a sharp turn would cause it to pour out. The roof was closed, so this has to be a problemo. To the dealer in the next few days.

Guess I need to check out my dome light!!! We had a toad strangler yesterday and no issues that I know of. I will check now.

Not sure about making the hard left/right turns but sounds fun. :D .

thanks for the heads up guys.

This is why I don't buy sunroof vehicles anymore. Everytime I did, I managed to develop a leak in it while I owned the vehicle. Too bad... they are a cool item.

My problem was that their are drip tubes that run water from the sunroof down through the cab corners and out.. one of these was missing........

That's not necessarily common on other makes/models. I have had factory sunroof equipped vehicles for years and no water leaks ever. 1992 Mazda Protege LX 7 years, 125k miles, 1999 Mazda 626 ES V6, 9 years, 186k miles, 1995 Nissan V6 4x4 SE pickup, 10 years, 90k miles, 1983 Mercedes 300SD, 5 years, my brother's 1998 Nissan Maxima sunroof does not leak etiher. And the drain tubes on any of them NEVER required cleaning.

However, Volkswagen seems to have very serious sunroof leak issues on many of their vehicles. Mostly due to constantly clogging sunroof drain tubes.

I bought a new 2007 Silverado crewcab 7 months ago that came with a factory sunroof. Recently I noticed when I go through the local laser carwash there is a light spray of water entering the rear driver side corner of the sunroof. I've also noticed it when there is a heavy downpour. I've noticed a lot of water in the rear driver side corner of the channel but no water anywhere else. It is kept under a carport and I only have 4000 miles on it so the drain channels shouldn't be clogged. I took it to the dealership I bought it from and they "repositioned the drain line". The body shop manager told me for future reference the sunroof may leak when I go through a high pressure carwash or if there is a heavy downpour. Is this right? I find that hard to believe. I can't imagine the sunroofs not being designed to keep water out better than this. I've done some reading and noticed it is normal to be able to reach up inside the truck and feel water in the channels but the only place I ever feel any water at all is in the back driver side corner of the sunroof channel. I just got it back so I'll repost in a few days with an update. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I know this thread is a little old, but I just had my sunroof leak on my 2003 Suburban while my wife was driving. This was after a "toad strangler" blew through a little while ago. My wife said it came out of our DVD player hole, dome lights, and driver visor. She also said it mostly happened after stopping and that it "gushed" out. I checked the sunroof when it was open and noticed that it had the drain holes in the front left and right of the panel, but is there anything else I can do besides blowing air through the holes?

You could see where the water had built up and I think it just had too much build up to let it through the drain tubes and it overflowed. Would a new seal around the sunroof help at all?

    • have you stuck with dealer oil changes since then? I made the same switch after getting tired of crawling around under the truck, but I’ve found some dealers are way better than others about getting you in quickly. Curious if yours has been good about scheduling or if you’ve had to look elsewhere for quicker turnaround.
    • Thank you.   I am set on a 3.0 Duramax as my previous truck with a Ford Ecoboost had just as many, if not more, "common" issues.  Cam phasers, timing chain issues, 10-speed valve body and CDF drum, emissions issues, etc.  So I figured, why not get 2x the fuel mileage (these things got 27+mpg on every mixed city/highway test drive I put them through) and better towing capability with resale value to boot?   My minimum, shortest trip will be 50 miles 1-way and I regularly go out of state with a travel trailer.  I'm planning on using this for a marketing/event promotion business also, which would require regular towing of trailers for bands, DJs, sound and lighting gear, along with my personal camera gear for filming events.   Looked at other trucks in the $30k+ price range but the issues seem to be everywhere, plus too many with gaudy mods.  I'm literally sticking with RWD trucks because they tend to be actually used as trucks, vs. the 4x4 models I've seen with unsafe lifts, huge tires, and general mods that would affect reliability (I'm wondering if some of them were tuned, hence the aggressive throttle response and hard shifting).   So my goal is to find a stock, 3.0 with 1 or 2 owners, in good physical condition, and decently well maintained.  Can't seem to find that up here, everything in the $27-30k range has had multiple owners, smoke smell, issues, or body damage.  Or the ridiculously modified trucks with 80k miles for under $27k but lots of problems...
    • That’s pretty tough Grumpy. I reread the previous few posts. They all reference oil changes. Much like your last thread. In my humble opinion it keeps things interesting.
    • Engine Wear and ISO 4406   1.) Cold Starts. 2.) High Particle Count. 3.) Low operating temperature viscosity and high low temperature cranking viscosity. 4.) Depleted AW, Friction and Acid packages.  5.) High engine load.    https://me.caltexlubricants.com/en_me/home/learning/from-chevron/heavy-duty-diesel-vehicles-and-equipment/The-Importance-of-Clean-Engine-Oil-and-Its-Impact-on-Equipment-and-Business-Performance.html   High particle counts have five sources. 1.) They are manufactured within the engine. Both wear debris and amalgamation of degradation products and combustion driven soot (worse in GDI). 2.) They are ingested via intake air. Ever hear the best oil filter is a good air filter? 3.) They are entrained in the fuel. 4.) This one is insidious. They are introduced in 'fresh oil'. 5.) They are introduced during the oil change.   ISO 4406 is the test that measures and quantifies the combine effects of all of the above particle related issues. You can mitigate your way into multiples of engine life by being attentive to them all.    https://www.hyprofiltration.com/blog/is-new-oil-clean   (from the link above)    [Quote] What Is the Recommended ISO 4406 Cleanliness Code for New Oil?   A good upper limit for new oil cleanliness is 16/14/11 (ISO 4406). Typical new oil usually has ISO codes of 19/17/15 or worse, which is far too dirty for sensitive components. This can be a major cause of degradation and premature failure.
