i know a guy with the EFI live program, if i cut the cats out will i see any power gains or MPG gains?? or loss lol...? anybody done this before? its a 2006 1500hd 6litre...

No gains in MPG or power. All cats today are very high flowing so the restriction isn't there. Most gain you will get is maybe a nice FINE in some states for no CATS. There an emission thing and in the last 10 years become not near the restriction they used to be. Headers and perhaps a catback exhaust from magnaflow or borla will yield gains.

I agree with the no power gains in the matter of which there is nothing to gain that you will notice with a street driven vehicle. Fines are subject that i will stay out of.

You are correct sir.....you are wrong the application is for street driven vehicle and the torque gain is about 3 ft lbs or less at WOT. Now if your on the race track and looking for 10th of second or less then you will make gains because drag races are won and lost by these margins.

My advise to the orginal poster is to keep the cats on because your not going to relize any gains that will matter more than than the truck running cleaner and keeping emissions down. This does two things: Number 1 is it keeps the tree huggers off the car/truck/auto hobbies ass and keeps them from making claims that we are doing stupid things like bypassing emission systems and number 2 is you don't look like an idiot by telling people and especialy those that know better that you removed your cats for performance reasons. Don't be that guy! I see them all the time..........most of em drive Hondas with fart pipes.

I wasn't asking if I should remove them I was asking if I would gain nything. I'm in oil country man nobody gives a rats ass about emissions ahahah. If a tree higher seen myhousethey would crap thier pants. Deer heads, moose racks, bunch of dead game on the wall. 2 sleds, boat, quad my lawn is not even that big and I got a riding lwnmower ahahah. If it doesn't burn petroleum products I don't use it!!!!! I just figured if you took them out you would gain cuz it is shit blocked the exhaust...it has too be more free flowing with them off.....

The absolute only change you will see is it will be noisier. Some people "feel" more hp because of the sound. I have personally removed cats (ended up putting them back on) and seen dyno test after dyno that show no gains.

In our race cars running straight open headers is much more free flowing then exhaust, but our cars run just as fast and often times faster with the 50+ lbs of exhuast on them.

I wouldn't think there will be any gain at all unless you find a way to reprogram the computer to not compensate for it (not sure if this is an option with current programmers on the market). The computer will sense that the cats aren't doing their job and will adjust the motor accordingly.

Just noticed you have a Helix TBS on your truck......with that said your gains should be substantial, tha't the one part that will make removing cats work due to the swirling sqeeking air going through it making the intake charge like an F5 Tornado in your cylinder during combustion. The combustion explosion travel through the pipes is sevierly restricked by cats at this point due to there inturnal baffling. Sorry I did not notice that before............... :D

man that helix piece of junk was a WASTE of money. The only thing it is good for is makin a whistling sound goin down the road. As I said in my first post, I know a guy with EFI live program, I know what too do if I shut them off. I already have the downstream 02's shutoff. I just wondered what it would be like if I cut them out.

are you trying too make fun of me? I know it was dumb buying that thing. I don't care, it's three bolts and it sounds cool. So whatever. If you actually think it does what you say it does you must be smokin some good $hit!!! Cuz that tbs didn't do a damn thing. Paper weight if you ask me.

Dude i am giving you a hard time, that thing is garbage but if you like the sound then that's cool. Look at your cats question the same way you see this helix paper wieght. Your not going to gain anything, in fact you stand to loose on performance and MPG and those are just the first two. It's all down hill from there. The truck is engineered witht eh systems it has and does very wel with them. Look at th tunes you can get from Black Bear or others or the hand helds. You will gain way more with any of these than you will with removing cats. Yes to be honest I was making fun and bustin your ass but you need to relize that being green with this truck is also a mod that does good for everyone. I have 67-69 Camaro muscle cars and other people own late modle stuff. Staying green or with emissions alows us to have a hobby that tree huggers can not prosacute and get lawmakers on theor side to legislate against us.

I am saying make the mods you want but also make responceable ones. Anyone can have a highly modifide what ever they want but if it's a street driven vehicle then it should be modded and legal for the street. It's like comparing NASCAR cars to the real counter part they represent. They have nothing common but a name and an engine brand. Go race one and see who wins. now load in the family and race in the real world and see who wins......ya I know stupid anallogy but if you want a race car build one. If you want a faster truck build one....BUT!! If it's daily driven then it should conform to the basic laws of emissions and safety out of respect to everyone else on the road. I hope you sorta get my drift on what I am saying. The automotive hobby is big but not bigger than the enviromental movement, it's best we keep a low profile and keep our mods legal so we can still enjoy what little we have left in regard to automotive freedom. 30 years ago I was not saying this...... I was saying Kiss my ass, I am doing what ever the hell I want. That's cool it our right as Americans and Canadians, we live in places that are like no other in the world as we know it and are free to think how ever we want. We are also free to share opinion and help our fellow hobbist with sarcasict opinions.........
