$%*&^@ Front Wheel Hub Isn't Cooperating

The wheel bearings on the driver's side of my 02 Yukon 4wd are shot, and today was the day. Disassembly went well: 18mm, 15mm, 36 mm all came out without too much grief. The splined shaft is loose, and I can drive it back. But I can't get the $%#*&^ hub off no matter what I try: Penetrating oil, beating on the hub. Has anyone had a hub really stuck? Did you get it off? I've read threads where people make it sound like the hub drops off after you pull the three bolts. I assume mine is rusted inside. I could sure use some hand-holding here. It's soaking overnight with lots of Kroil penetrating oil.

It's hard to really wail on all sides of the hub flange with that dust shield in the way. I had it serviced on recall several years ago to have the ABS sensor cleaned. Is it possible they sealed the hub up with something that's causing this problem? There's sure alot of metal to heat up, and I'd hate to go that route unless necessairy.

In too far to turn back now . . . .

i've had some hub assemblies that seemed like they were welded on. Do you have an air compressor? An air hammer does the trick for me.... basically use a blunt bit and try to "spin" the hub. Once you break it loose, it spins out pretty easily.

^^^ I agree. If you live where there is salt on the roads, the hubs can stick like the are welded.

Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow. I did try to spin the hub sideways by beating against the ABS connector with a hammer and cold chisel, but just snapped it off. I've got an air chisel . . . I'll give it a try.

Yeah the air chisel should do the trick. Remember, you're just trying to spin the hub with the chisel, not push it out. Once it starts spinning it'll start coming out on its own and then you can get the chisel in between the hub and the spindle and push it outwards while spinning it.

Thanks Matt, I'll try it first thing. I hope it works. I'm in Morristown, where are you? The entire underside of my truck is rusting. I can't believe all the salt they dump on our roads. Up here they start salting before the snow even begins!

I'm from jackson/howell.... we get a ton of salt around here too. My neighbors probably think im nuts when im washing my truck in the dead of winter, but i can't stand to leave that salt on it

ahhhh ,hello,,,,4 bolts, lord help us all lol

I figured that was a typo... give the guy some credit; i don't think anyone is dumb enough to remove 3 of 4 bolts and then wonder why the part won't come off. It's not like the 4th bolt is hidden, it's pretty obvious.

Edit: Paul.. if you did leave that 4th bolt in then... well... my condolences

I know I'm just havin' some fun, lmao

the o-ring is givin' him the grief me thinks and all the rest of the crap,

I say jam a flat screwdriver in there and clean up the damage later with a "cookie " on a die grinder!

. . . . you guys trying to give me a heart attack or something?

My Yukon has 3 bolts on a triangular flange that holds the hub. I think it is a 15 series. The 25/35 series have 4 bolts on a square flange.

eerrr?

lmao

That's right buddy she's a 3 bolt.

I go the air chisel to the base with a slide hammer 2 man approach on the really stickey ones.

Well placed plastic explosives will work too but make sure you have your full coverage up to date and you park it outside.
